Should Star Wars move on from the Skywalkers

facebooktwitterreddit

Star Wars has always been about the Skywalker family, but it’s time to move on from them and tell new stories.

Star Wars for a long time has been about the Skywalker family from Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace to Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker. The Skywalkers have played a major role in all of the main Star Wars movies.

A lot of people would say Star Wars is the Story of the Skywalkers. Let’s talk about the possibility of moving on from the Skywalkers and telling  a new story with a new family or a new set of characters

More from Star Wars News

We all know the story of the Skywalkers: Anakin Skywalker was born thru manipulation of the force by Darth Sidious. Anakin was very powerful in the force and grew up to be a powerful Jedi. But, he would eventually be corrupted by the dark side and become Darth Vader with the promise of saving his pregnant wife Padme from dying from childbirth. He plays a big part in the destruction of the Jedi Order. Padme with dies giving birth to Luke and Leia.

Luke is left with his Uncle Owen on Tatooine and Leia is left with Bail Organa on Alderaan. Luke grows on Tatooine, meets Obi-Wan Kenobi, learns about his father and starts training to become a Jedi. He goes to confront Darth Vader and finds out it his father Anakin Skywalker. He gets away from Vader then later goes to fight Vader and the Emperor in his throne. He gets his father to turn on the emperor and throw the emperor down the shaft and blow up the Death Star and stop the empire.

To look at how nostalgia plays a role at box offices, we could look at another popular franchise.

Star Trek movies at the box office kept going down with each new movie.

You know what those movies had in common? They were all very similar to the Star Trek television shows.

Then J.J. Abrams rebooted Star Wars movies and the box office shoots up, bringing in a whole new audience with many of the complaints coming from fans of the original series. Even the new series Star Trek Discovery have fans of the original series complaining about it

The same thing will eventually happen to Star Wars because Lucasfilm keeps catering to nostalgia and fans of the original series. Now we do have Rian Johnson’s new trilogy that has been confirmed will have nothing to do with the Skywalkers, and we have David Benioff and D.B. Weiss films that are reportedly about The Old Republic.

We have the new Jedi Fallen Order which is about a new Jedi named Cal. We have the new characters, Rey Poe and Finn. Kathleen Kennedy has said these characters will still be around after Star Wars: The Rise Of SkyWalker.

Star Wars should move on from the SKywalkers and tell new stories and it seems that what they are aiming to do unless they retcon The Last Jedi. What do you guys think about this should Star Wars move on from the Skywalkers, let me know in the comments section below.
