After being ignored in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Darth Vader’s helmet makes its return in a short teaser for the Rise of Skywalker. Let the speculation begin!
Here. We. Go.
In a brief 10-second teaser shown at D23 Expo, we got a glimpse into the close to the Skywalker Saga. The clip touches a variety of images including Kylo Ren battling the Knights of Ren, Rey saying, “it’s too dangerous, I must go alone,” and perhaps most intriguing, Kylo Ren looking down at a receding panel to reveal Vader’s helmet in storage.
Darth Vader’s legacy returning to the eye of Kylo Ren is particularly interesting, given that we saw the helmet in Kylo Ren’s possession and never had any clarification of its whereabouts in The Last Jedi. One of the major themes of The Last Jedi was “letting the past die. Kill it if you have to,” evident by the the death of Snoke, The death of Han solo in the The Force Awakens, and the smashing of the Kylo Ren’s mask.

Welp. it seems J.J. Abrams isn’t quite ready to let the past die. The previous Star Wars The Rise of Skywalker trailer featured, the repairing of Kylo Ren’s mask, and a familiar laugh. Now we have Darth Vader’s helmet making its return after being totally MIA for a film. The fact that Kylo Ren has continued to keep his grandfather’s helmet safe seems to mean that he’s not quite ready to let the past go either.
There’s a ton of possibilities for the implications of Darth Vader’s helmet, and this 10-second footage is likely just a taste of The Rise of Skywalker content set to come from D23. We are just 4 months away from The Rise of Skywalker and right now we have more questions then any sort of answers. Buckle up because it will surely be turbulent ride leading up to the premiere.
