After The Rise of Skywalker, Star Wars movies will be in a break until 2022. Disney confirmed the untitled movie in still on in a recent update.

Disney released an updated movie schedule on Friday, featuring what’s ahead through 2023, including Star Wars.

While some movies got moved around, the only Star Wars movie on the schedule was still listed as December 2022, according to Deadline.

This didn’t change from the plan released in the spring. The only thing that changed are the people behind this movie. It’s also unclear if this is a standalone film or something that would be part of a trilogy or a longer series of movies.

Last May, Disney announced the schedule and said the 2022 would be the start of a trilogy that would mark a new movie release coming every other year for holiday. Disney CEO Bob Iger later said it would be the start of the trilogy from Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss.

Benioff and Weiss since left Lucasfilm for a variety of reasons and are no longer working on any Star Wars projects.

So while we are unsure what the untitled movie will be, Disney is still committed for it to be in 2022.

Publicly, the only two movie projects acknowledged by Lucasfilm have been the Rian Johnson trilogy and a project Marvel studio head Kevin Feige is working on. While there are TV series in the works for Disney+, those don’t come into play for this situation.

Iger recently said on a Disney earnings call that Star Wars movies would go on hiatus, but it still seems as nothing has really changed. After The Rise of Skywalker, there will be at least a three-year gap until we get another Star Wars film.

That’s not so bad and most fans would rather Lucasfilm get it right than put something out for the sake of a having a movie.

In the meantime, we will have plenty of Disney+ content to watch in between movies.
