2. C-3PO

We have never seen C-3PO in the form he was in for Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker. Never before. He was hilarious. His comic relief was necessary, it was well placed, it wasn’t too much, and I found myself constantly looking forward to what he was going to say next. Still, he never disappointed. Each line was a gem.

It took on an added impetus because R2-D2 was not as big of a part of this story. C-3PO took over. And he wasn’t just hilarious, his heartfelt lines were a reminder of how well George Lucas does droids, even if he wasn’t behind these particular lines. When C-3PO turns to R2-D2 and calls him his best friend? I’m getting choked up just thinking about it.

But that wasn’t even the big moment. The big moment came when he had to sacrifice his own memory, thus his own consciousness, all the things that made him such a special character, for the good of the cause. And when he turns and looks at the group of them and he says he’s just getting one last look at his friends… my goodness. Too much.

Of course, we kind of always knew he would get his memories back. Why? Because of the power of friendship, of course! The little caveat of R2-D2 being unreliable in his backups, which proved untrue, because they’re just the best of friends.

Touching.

C-3PO ruled the day. I cannot wait to see the movie again for Babu Frik. I cannot wait to see it again for more of C-3PO and I really can’t wait to see it for No. 1.
