1. Anakin Skywalker vs Obi-Wan Kenobi – Revenge of the Sith

Like I said, one of the highpoints of the prequel trilogy was the intense and more fast paced lightsaber duels, and to me, the third act of the prequels features what I believe to be the best of them.

The prevailing story of the prequel trilogy is that of Anakin Skywalker and his path to becoming Darth Vader, and after he turns and comes face to face with his former master, they had a fight for the ages.

They had a deeply personal history together as Obi-Wan was Anakin’s father figure from a young age, but Anakin had felt betrayed by him and the Jedi Order during the events of the movie. What made it all the worse was Anakin believing that Obi-Wan had turned his wife Padme against him, and Obi-Wan, despite seeing his apprentice pledge allegiance to the Emperor and slaughter the younglings at the Jedi Temple, still was hesitant to face him.

This was a blood fight, as this looked less like a choreographed fight and more as if each man was going for a kill shot with every swing of their lightsaber. They battled through the lava fields of Mustafar, destroying the control room to facility site, dueling on falling debris, and eventually, having their final confrontation on the banks of the lava river.

In arguably the most iconic scene of the prequel trilogy, Obi-Wan shouts “It’s over Anakin! I have the high ground”, before his apprentice tries leaping from his platform on the river over his apprentice, and his former Master cuts off both legs and his left hand.

Obi-Wan chastises his former apprentice and friend, but cannot bring himself to kill him. He picks up Anakin’s lightsaber, the weapon of a Jedi, and leaves him alone on the lava banks to burn and die, but out of sheer hatred, Anakin lives on and finally become the Darth Vader we knew from the original trilogy.

While the first two entries in the prequel trilogy are not the best, Revenge of the Sith did redeem it as a whole in the eyes of a lot of fans, and a big part of that is due to this final duel between the trilogy’s two main characters.

A satisfying payoff to the story of two of the most famous characters throughout the entire Star Wars franchise, the battle of Obi-Wan and Anakin on Mustafar, in my opinion, is the best of all the movies.
