The newest leak comes from Slashfilm revealing a nugget about Timothy Olyphant’s character on The Mandalorian — and it’s big clue as to who he will portray.

With the news Timothy Olyphant is joining The Mandalorian Season 2, there might be a little more info on his character.

This character might also be someone Star Wars fans have met before – but only if you read the books.

More from The Mandalorian

SlashFilm brought the initial news about Olyphant and now it also has the scoop. The simple version of this news is Olyphant’s character will be wearing Boba Fett’s armor.

Whoa!

This may seem a little confusing because wasn’t Temuera Morrison supposed to be joining the show as Boba Fett?

While that may seem a bit contradictory of each other, there is a rather logical explanation – if you have read the Star Wars books.

In the Aftermath trilogy, there is a brief mention of a character Cobb Vanth. He plays a sheriff of Freetown, which is on Tatooine. He just so happens to wear Mandalorian armor that he purchased from Jawas on Tatooine.

The armor also was a bit ruined from corrosive acid. Do sarlaccs emit acid?

It’s never explicitly said that the armor Vanth is wearing is Fett’s iconic one, but it’s hard not to think so. Jawas are scavengers and to think they just happen to find a set of Mandalorian armor in the Tatooine desert is just a little coincidental.

If Boba Fett does appear and his armor – just without him – it makes a lot of sense Olyphant would be Vanth. This is, of course, as along as Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni are following what is written in canon and the Aftermath series is fully part of the Disney Star Wars canon.

Also, Olyphant is pretty good playing sheriff types. Perhaps it is typecasting a bit, but it all fits!

What do you think of this latest news? Are we ready for Cobb Vanth, whoever he is?

The Mandalorian Season 2 will premiere on Disney+ in October.
