Star Wars Thrawn: Ascendancy: Chaos Rising gets September release date

Star Wars books and comics have been delayed and calendars have been shuffled around. Slowly, dates are being solidified with the latest being the first book in the Thrawn Ascendancy trilogy.

Chaos Rising will come out on September 1 – after jumping to several different dates in the calendar, Del Rey Books announced today.

More from Star Wars Books

When Thrawn was re-introduced into Star Wars canon, we learned about his time once he arrived to the Republic. He went through the Academy, his rose through the ranks of the Empire’s military until his mysterious ending in Rebels.

Yet all the time before is still an unknown.

Who is Thrawn?

Thrawn came to the republic with specific intentions that had to do with his own people. While he worked for the Empire, it seemed as though that goal never left his thoughts.

The Thrawn Ascendancy trilogy is meant to explore the origins of the Chiss leader. Where he come from in the Unknown Regions and what exactly the Chiss are afraid of. There were hints of this in the Thrawn Trilogy as we learned a little more about the Grysks.

The Grysks are sentient beings that have done nothing but attack others, including the Chiss in the Unknown Regions. They expanded their reach into the Outer Rim, and Thrawn gave a warning about them.

Thrawn has been an interesting character because he was introduced outside of the Skywalker Saga. His path crossed with the likes of Anakin Skywalker and Padme Amidala, and then eventually Darth Vader. However, he wasn’t defined by any of them. Thrawn has had his own way of seeing the universe and interacting with people.

Thrawn Ascendancy’s Chaos Rising comes out in September, but there are several books still on the calendar this year.

Queen’s Peril, Shadow Fall, Free Fall are all scheduled to release within the next couple of months. While The High Republic project was intended to start this year, it was pushed back to 2021.
