Marvel’s current Darth Vader comic is already a hit among Star Wars fans. But it’s nowhere near finished surprising them at every unexpected turn.

It’s no secret that Darth Vader will stop at nothing to keep his darkest secrets from his most dangerous enemies. It’s likely he never considered the possibility of having to return to the place he fell in love to bury his grief once and for all … only to discover his secrets were no longer safe.

The first few issues of Darth Vader (2020) thrust fans into an intense and heartbreaking journey through time as Vader struggles to disconnect current events from painful moments in his past. Thus far, each issue has forced the Sith Lord to dig even deeper into his former self, once again inspiring the question: Is Anakin Skywalker really dead?

Without giving too much away, Vader has taken it upon himself to prevent anyone and everyone from finding out who Luke Skywalker really is. One quick to Naboo didn’t quite go the way he planned, though — and it could uncover truths he doesn’t even want to face.

More from Star Wars Comics

Believe it or not, this isn’t the first time in recent expanded universe history that a character has ended up on Naboo and stumbled across sensitive information about Padmé Amidala. Last month’s Doctor Aphra audio drama, an adaption of several previous Marvel comics, featured Doctor Aphra discovering a secret message recorded by Padmé that no one was ever supposed to find.

Accidental foreshadowing? Not likely. The Lucasfilm Story Group is smarter than that.

You can catch a glimpse of a few pages from next week’s issue on StarWars.com.

There’s a major spoiler in these preview pages, so proceed with caution if you’re not caught up on the first three issues. But if you haven’t, but you’ve read Queen’s Shadow and/or Queen’s Peril … prepare to absolutely lose your mind.

Darth Vader #4 will be available on August 12.
