Obi-Wan Kenobi season 1 is not coming to Disney Plus in May 2021

If you’re a fan of live-action adaptations of the Star Wars universe, new content won’t be coming your way until later this year. Disney Plus is bolstering its stable of Star Wars content this year, but most of it is the release of old animated series and the debut of The Bad Batch. What does that mean for live-action series like Obi-Wan Kenobi season 1? Here’s what we know.

This year’s Star Wars Day will see a big launch for the franchise with the premiere of The Bad Batch. The animated series will take viewers along for a wild ride with Clone Force 99 as they navigate life after the Clone Wars. However, the show will be the only major showing for the franchise on Disney Plus in May.

In fact, live-action series aren’t set to be returning to the platform or debuting until December 2021. That’s when fans anticipating the release of The Book of Boba Fett can expect to see the series.

The Mandalorian season 3 will start filming after its spin-off finishes production, its release date is unknown but is slated for a 2022 debut.

Obi-Wan Kenobi season 1 release date

As for Obi-Wan Kenobi, the series is also likely scheduled for a 2022 release date, but there’s been no confirmation on when fans can expect to watch the show next year.

Filming, however, has begun on the project, so the likelihood of a late 2022 release is low — meaning fans won’t have to wait too long into the following year to see Obi-Wan watch over Luke Skywalker on Tatooine. Or battle Anakin, now Darth Vader, a decade after their fateful class in Episode III: Revenge of the Sith.
