Despite the massive amount of Star Wars content, we can expect in the next year and beyond, we still do not have a confirmed release window for season 3 of the hit Disney+ series The Mandalorian.

Both seasons 1 and 2 aired in the later months of 2019 and 2020 respectively. This year, things are a bit different. The end of the year slot will instead be occupied by the spinoff series The Book of Boba Fett as was teased in a post-credits scene in the season 2 finale of The Mandalorian last year.

The new series is set to feature Temuera Morrison once again portraying the titular clone bounty hunter. Morrison of course first played the character’s “father,” Jango Fett, in Attack of the Clones as well as all of his other clones.

With the Boba Fett series slated to air in this timeframe, this leaves the future airing dates of The Mandalorian up in the air. Lucasfilm has confirmed that pre-production on a new season has begun but has not stated when the show will resume.

The release date for season 3 of The Mandalorian

At a guess, we can expect some time in 2022 is when we will next catch a glimpse of everyone’s favorite pair, Din Djarin and his elderly infant sidekick, Grogu. It is possible however that we could be in for a sighting of a Mandalorian cast member earlier than that.

We know that the cyborg sniper Fennec Shand, played by Ming-Na Wen, will be making an appearance in at least one episode of the animated series The Bad Batch with new episodes currently airing every Friday on Disney+. Shand will also be featured in The Book of Boba Fett.

Aside from this, there is no confirmed news on when we will next see any characters from the first live-action Star Wars series. Another show with an unconfirmed release date is Ahsoka featuring the wayward Jedi herself, Ahsoka Tano as played by Rosario Dawson.

Also planned is Rangers of the New Republic, believed to feature the X-Wing pilots seen throughout The Mandalorian as well as former rebel shock trooper Cara Dune. However, with Lucasfilm stating that Dune’s actress Gina Carano would no longer be appearing in Star Wars content, the future of the series remains unknown.

It is only a matter of time before we receive more concrete news on when the new season of The Mandalorian will be back on our screens. Fortunately, we’ve got a tone of great content to look forward to until then.
