Since 2019, The Mandalorian has charmed all Star Wars fans — from the die-hard fans who know every inch of the Star Wars universe down to the most casual of fans who sometimes just pop in to see Baby Yoda.
And, amazingly, we are already approaching a third season of the series. The first season kicked off with the launch of Disney+ back in November of 2019 to acclaimed reviews. And in the fall of 2020, the series returned with just as much hype (if not more) because the beloved duo of Din Djarin and Grogu were returning.
Now, we’re anticipating what’s next for the series. With The Book of Boba Fett already behind us and now Obi-Wan Kenobi debuting this Friday, May 27, there’s a lot of Star Wars to watch. But what about season 3 of The Mandalorian? Here are all the details we know so far.
The Mandalorian season 3 release date
During Star Wars Celebration on May 26, Disney announced that The Mandalorian season 3 will premiere in February 2023! That feels so long from now, but we’re not entirely surprised the next season won’t be coming out this year.
We suspected it would be a while before we got a new season of The Mandalorian. In an interview with Ewan McGregor and Pedro Pascal released in June 2021, Pascal revealed he hadn’t started filming The Mandalorian yet. Plus, there’s already so much Star Wars content coming out in 2022. After Obi-Wan Kenobi, we’ll be getting Andor which premieres on Aug. 31, 2022. It was also announced during Star Wars Celebration that Ahsoka will be coming in 2023.
There’s also the debate of whether The Mandalorian will be moved from Fridays to Wednesdays thanks to Disney+’s new schedule. But nothing concrete about that has been revealed either.
The Mandalorian season 3 cast
Below is a list of actors who are most likely to return to The Mandalorian season 3, and those who could likely return in season 3. As a note, actress Gina Carano has been fired by Lucasfilm, so we likely won’t be seeing Cara Dune — unless she’s recast. Other actors like Amy Sedaris (Peli Motto), Timothy Olyphant (Cobb Vanth), and Horatio Sanz (the Mythrol) could return, it all depends on the direction the story goes.
Actors most likely to return to The Mandalorian:
- Pedro Pascal (The Mandalorian)
- Carl Weathers (Greef Carga)
- Giancarlo Esposito (Moff Gideon)
Unconfirmed to return, but a possibility:
- Temuera Morrison (Boba Fett)
- Ming-Na Wen (Fennec Shand)
- Katee Sackhoff (Bo-Katan Kryze)
- Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker)
- Rosario Dawson (Ahsoka Tano)
The Mandalorian season 3 synopsis
Based on the events of season 2, we can surmise that season 2 will have something to do with the reclamation of Mandalore, as well as Grogu’s Jedi training with Luke Skywalker. In Disney’s release date tweet, they tease about the new season: “The Mandalorian and Grogu continue their journey in Season 3 of [The Mandalorian].” This confirms that Din Djarin and our favorite little green guy will be back together again. This will surely make fans happy.
Is there a trailer for The Mandalorian season 3?
Currently, there is no trailer for The Mandalorian season 3. However, it’s said that new footage from the season was shown during Star Wars Celebration. It hasn’t been released online yet, but once it does we will be sure to update this article!
In the meantime, here is the season 2 recap sizzle to keep you excited for what’s to come.
What’s next in The Mandalorian universe?
Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau are building up their own pocket of the Star Wars universe, which will be centered on the world of The Mandalorian. That includes the first spinoff, The Book of Boba Fett, which debuted in December 2021.
Later, we’ll see Ahsoka in her own self-titled series — presumably to continue the story of Star Wars Rebels. And on top of that, we’ll be getting the series called Rangers of the New Republic, which is likely undergoing a process of revision now that Gina Carano will no longer be playing Cara Dune.
