After being announced in December of 2020, scraps of information have been circulating the web regarding the upcoming series featuring everyone’s favorite wayward Jedi, Ahsoka Tano.

Initially, it was believed that principal photography for Ahsoka would not commence until sometime early next year. However, a report from Kevin Smith’s podcast, FatMan Beyond, has revealed that production on the series could be starting sooner than expected.

It is understood that Ahsoka Tano’s live-action performer herself, Rosario Dawson, is slated to begin work as early as this December — around the same time fans can expect to see the first episode of the upcoming Disney+ series The Book of Boba Fett, which just launched its first trailer.

Here’s how the podcast found out Dawson was filming, according to the podcast co-host Marc Bernardin, who told the story to Smith:

"You helped me connect with somebody who was going to be in the cast but couldn’t make it happen…It was Rosario Dawson. I don’t know why we’re being circumspect about that. She’s not going to be in the movie, so it’s fine! She’s the busiest lady in the world…But yeah, like, she was the first choice, and I wanted her very, very badly — and she read the script and loved it, but she was like “Listen, I’m going to be in Manhattan Beach making a f***ing Star Wars show, and, uh, I can’t be in your short.” Which I was like “Okay! That checks out!’”"

If she isn’t beginning filming for her series this year, it’s also possible that Dawson could be filming for The Mandalorian season 3, which has finally begun filming recently.

The apprentice becomes the master

Dawson first entered the galaxy far, far away in The Mandalorian episode “Chapter 13: The Jedi,” marking the character’s first live-action appearance after first being introduced in 2008’s animated film The Clone Wars. In the animated series, she was voiced by Ashley Eckstein who continues to voice the character in all of her other many animated appearances throughout the franchise.

Since the character’s first appearance over 13 years ago, Tano’s popularity has exploded, with there now being copious amounts of cosplays and fan art of the character. Lucasfilm seems to have taken the hint and has been incorporating Tano into many Star Wars releases over the past few years.

It has also been revealed that none other than Darth Vader himself will be making an appearance in the upcoming show and that he will be portrayed by Hayden Christensen who is also returning to play the character in the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series slated for release next year.

Christensen’s return to the Star Wars galaxy was met with much fanfare as he has been absent from the saga for over 15 years following the release of Revenge of the Sith. Just how involved Vader will be in Ahsoka’s new show is not currently known. But seeing as the two share one of the franchise’s most iconic master-and-apprentice bonds, chances are that it will be a big one.
