Star Wars: The Acolyte cast officially announced
Lucasfilm dropped a big announcement today officially confirming the cast and filming location for the upcoming Disney+ series The Acolyte. For the first time ever, Star Wars fans can also read a short synopsis for the series, which will take place near the end of the High Republic era.
According to StarWars.com:
"“The Acolyte” is a mystery-thriller that will take viewers into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging dark-side powers in the final days of the High Republic era. A former Padawan reunites with her Jedi Master to investigate a series of crimes, but the forces they confront are more sinister than they ever anticipated.”"
As announced previously, the cast will include Amandla Stenberg, Lee Jung-jae, Manny Jacinto, Dafne Keen, Jodie Turner-Smith, Rebecca Henderson, Charlie Barnett, Dean-Charles Chapman, and Carrie-Anne Moss.
Lucasfilm also confirmed that production has started in the UK.
No expected release date has been announced, but more information will likely emerge as filming and production progress.
It’s exciting to get confirmation on many of the casting rumors we’ve covered here over at Dork Side of the Force. The cast is absolutely stellar making The Acolyte one of the most anticipated projects of the Disney era. Depending on whether or not it debuts before the pre-school animated series, Young Jedi Adventures, it might be the company’s first on-screen outing of the High Republic too.
The High Republic is a publishing initiative from Lucasfilm that takes place over 200 years before The Phantom Menace. Starting with the Jedi and the Republic at their height, it showcases their downfall into the Prequel Trilogy era.
With The Acolyte taking place at the end of this time, it will be exciting to see the catalyst of this transition on screen.
