Although Star Wars fans will have to wait until 2024 for the second and final season of Andor, speculation is already looming as to how the story of Cassian Andor will round out as the show leads into the events of 2016’s Rogue One.

The first season from showrunner Tony Gilroy was an unexpected hit, with many praising the series as the best live action series from the Star Wars universe as well as one of the best shows of the year overall.

Joining Diego Luna, reprising his role as Cassian Andor from Rogue One, was Genevieve O’Reilly returning as Mon Mothma who had portrayed the senator in the same film, voiced her in Rebels and also appeared in a deleted scene from Revenge of the Sith. Joining them of course was academy award winner Forest Whitaker as Saw Gerrera, the first character in the new canon to make the jump from animation to live action. Returning also was Duncan Pow as Melshi.

These alumni from Rogue One confirm the story’s inevitable trajectory. But with a full five years in-universe between the events of the show and the movie in discussion; there is still a whole lot of ground to cover.

One topic of importance is who else will be crossing paths with Cassian in the second half of his series? Let’s sound off some names and determine the likelihood of their presence.

Bail Organa

Another long time Star Wars character who made the return journey for Rogue One. The senator from Alderaan was first mentioned, albeit indirectly, in A New Hope by Princess Leia in her message to Obi-Wan Kenobi who had served her father in the Clone Wars. Organa then went on to appear in Episodes II and III and more recently in the Obi-Wan Kenobi series, played all this time by Jimmy Smits who himself is a veteran television actor having made a name for himself in legendary shows such as NYPD Blue and The West Wing. A very sensible choice for the show whose presence would undoubtedly enhance the plot.

Orson Krennic

Played by Australian actor Ben Mendelsohn, given the nature of Andor’s final mission, this would also make a lot of sense. The post credit scene of the show gave us a glimpse of the construction of the Death Star, which Cassian had unwittingly been a part of during his incarceration. Krennic being the director of the massive project and the primary antagonist of Rogue One would make him a perfect addition to the series as well.

Galen Erso

Andor is, more than anything else, a spy-thriller. Galen Erso was essentially a deep-cover agent masquerading as an Imperial scientist while in fact orchestrating the ultimate doom of the super weapon he was helping to create. This kind of plot thread is just so very Andor. An act of espionage that would put even Luthen Rael to shame. Seeing as Jyn Erso will seemingly not be appearing in the second season, this still leaves room for her father to show up.

Princess Leia

If we’re being honest, this one seems unlikely given the show’s penchant for avoiding major characters. But then again, not a lot of people predicted the young princess would be a central character of the Obi-Wan Kenobi series so perhaps anything is possible. By the events of Andor season 1, Leia would be about 14 years old. Although young, she was already learning the intricacies of politics from her father the senator and her mother the Queen at this time. It’s worth pointing out that at 14, Leia’s birth mother was already Queen of Naboo, had fired the supreme chancellor and led the fight against the Trade Federation. She would certainly be right at home in the shadowy world of Andor.
