For the past few months, James Mangold’s upcoming Dawn of the Jedi film and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy’s currently untitled upcoming Rey Skywalker film are two of the bigger upcoming projects in store at Lucasfilm.

The two films are set to take place at completely different points in time. However, President of Lucasfilm Kathleen Kennedy recently spoke on connecting factors between the two future films and made it clear that despite the time difference, the two films do complement one another.

“It was something that Jim [Mangold] immediately sparked to, and I think it’s a really nice compliment to what we’re doing with moving into the future with Rey and then understanding a bit more of where this all came from,”  Kennedy told Gamesradar.com.

Kennedy goes on to talk more about her Untitled Rey Skywalker film coming out within the next few years. She reconfirms that the film will be centered around Rey rebuilding the Jedi Order.

“Because it will be at the heart of creating the new Jedi Order, so to get a real sense of where that might have began with the dawn of the Jedi could be pretty cool.”

This is an angle that neither Kennedy nor Lucasfilm as a whole has been quiet about. Fans have been iffy on the idea of even exploring Rey at all. However, Lucasfilm seems to have its mind made up.

Similarly, James Mangold has spoken on his own film, Dawn of the Jedi. Dawn of the Jedi is set to explore and showcase the very first Jedi and Force users. Mangold stated several premises and prompts regarding The Force in an Interview with IMDb.

“Where does it come from? When was it found? How is it found? How did the first person wrestle with it when they discovered it? How did they discover that there was a dark and light side?”

The Untitled Rey film is scheduled to release in May 2026. Dawn of the Jedi is set to release in December 2025. There isn’t any talk reported of a follow-up or trilogy to either film just yet. However, the idea seems on the table as long as both films perform well at the box office and on Streaming platforms.
