Star Wars: Dark Forces remastered finally has a release date

The remastered game Star Wars: Dark Forces finally has a release date. The fan-favorite game will arrive on console systems on February 28, 2024. The first-person shooter, initially released in 1995, is being restored by one of the best companies in the industry, Nightdive Studios. Nightdive believes in the preservation of video games and updates them for current systems. Star Wars: Dark Forces will be released on PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and 5, and the Xbox One and Series X and S.

According to IGN, the Star Wars: Dark Forces remaster will run on “modern gaming systems at up to 4K resolution and 120 frames per second (not on the Switch version). There’s mention of “upgraded gameplay,” high-resolution textures, enhanced lighting and rendering, and support for console gamepads with platform-specific features.” There will also be Trophies and Achievements for consoles Xbox, PC via Steam, and Playstation.

The story focuses on Kyle Katarn, a significant character in Legends works. In Star Wars: Dark Forces, he is an Imperial defector turned mercenary working for the Rebel Alliance. In the game, he uncovers the creation of new super-powered stormtroopers called Dark Troopers. This is Katarn’s first appearance, but he would go on to become a skilled Jedi who works with Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars Jedi Knight series.

Star Wars: Dark Forces left quite an impact on Star Wars, with the Dark Troopers of the game making an appearance in Season 2 of The Mandalorian. The Imperial Warlord, Moff Gideon, created the droids, but Din Djarin and Luke Skywalker destroyed them in the finale. They also inspired the security droids in the Season 3 episode “The Wynkahthu Job” from Star Wars Rebels.

Star Wars: Dark Forces remaster will arrive on console systems on February 28, 2024.
