5 most underrated characters from The Mandalorian
As the main characters of The Mandalorian, Din Djarin and Grogu have drawn the interest of viewers of all ages and maintained that interest. However, the series’ success belongs to many other characters who’ve been a part of the journey as well. Many of these characters haven’t received the appreciation they deserve for making the show so enjoyable, but they continue to make it the fun ride it is.
Here are 5 underrated characters from The Mandalorian.
1. Migs Mayfeld
The great thing about The Mandalorian is how it has changed our opinions of characters over time. Migs Mayfeld (Bill Burr) made his debut on the series in Season 1, Chapter 6, “The Prisoner,” as a shady mercenary who works for Ranzar Malk. Mayfeld, a former Imperial Sharpshooter, didn’t seem like a guy with much of a guilty conscience, but Season 2, Chapter 15, “The Believer,” changes our perception of Mayfeld forever. Bill Burr gives an impressive performance as Mayfeld’s past is revealed to audiences bit by bit throughout the episode. As someone who worked for the Empire, he carries a lot of guilt for his role in Operation: Cinder. Not only does Mayfield make up for his behavior towards Din and Grogu in Chapter 6, but he ends up a hero by helping him obtain the coordinates to Moff Gideon’s cruiser. Mayfield is more than just a smart-mouthed mercenary but a character who cares about innocent people. We’d love to see Din Djarin and Migs Mayfield run into one another again in Season 4.
2. Peli Motto
Peli Motto (Amy Sedaris) is the funniest character in the series. Peli is an engineer slash mechanic from Tatooine who’s also a part-time babysitter to Grogu. Peli and her droids provide fans with lots of comic relief and are always there to help resurrect Din’s dying Razor Crest. Peli loves caring for Grogu and isn’t afraid to tell Din off whenever he’s careless with the little one. As a recurring character, Peli has become a fan favorite, and Sedaris is a natural at the role. Though she’s a “local gal,” hopefully, Season 4 will take Peli to new worlds where she can expand her ship-repairing business. Peli is an unsung hero in the series and one of Din’s most reliable friends.
3. Paz Viszla
Paz Viszla was the tough guy who seemed like he’d play an antagonist at first but proved to be a loyal brother to Din Djarin. Without his help, Din wouldn’t have been able to escape Nevarro with Grogu at the end of Chapter 3, and it would’ve been the end of their story. Though Din and Paz have had some disagreements, Paz remained fiercely loyal to the creed and sacrificed his own life at the end of Season 3 to help the Mandalorians escape Moff Gideon. He died a hero and remained staunchly anti-imperial to the end. Many fans were understandably upset that his role ended in Season 3. Paz is an underrated hero of The Mandalorian.
4. Kuiil
Kuiil is Din Djarin’s Ugnaught friend who died protecting Grogu at the end of Season 1. Fans often quote his famous line, “I have spoken,” and fondly remember him as Din’s wise friend from Arvala-7. With Kuiil’s help, Din could find the compound where Grogu was held captive. Kuiil also reprogrammed IG-11 to be a nurse droid, and after his death, IG-11 ensured Grogu was safe until the very end. Kuiil’s impact is felt even now, and Season 3 pays tribute to him when Din introduces himself to a group of Ugnaughts as Kuiil’s friend. Din’s friendship with Kuiil reveals the softer side of his personality. Kuiil is one of those characters who wasn’t around for long, but his impact will never be forgotten.
5. The Armorer
Emily Swallow’s striking voice and commanding screen presence as the Armorer allows her to steal every scene she’s in. The Armorer has been a part of the series since Chapter 1 and continues playing the role of a guide to Din. She’s a talented forger of Beskar and a fierce Mandalorian warrior, but there’s an aura of mystery surrounding her character, as we still don’t know her actual name. The Armorer is incredibly underrated but might be the best new Mandalorian character in the series.
