Marvel President and the head of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Kevin Feige, has confirmed that his upcoming Star Wars film has been officially scrapped. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, he was asked if the project would go forward, to which he responded with a simple “No.” This Star Wars film would have had Loki’s Michael Waldron to write the script, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

This isn’t a surprising development, as not much news has been released about Feige’s Star Wars movie since the announcement in 2019. The world has changed drastically since then, including a global pandemic that reshaped the landscape of Hollywood and streaming services. To add some perspective, this was a pre-Disney+ world. Star Wars and Marvel series on a small screen hadn’t been fully realized yet.

Both Marvel and Star Wars have reformed their plans going forward since then. It was recently announced three new movies in a galaxy far, far away, with a focus on developing individual eras. I do think this is an incredibly smart move for Star Wars because that model has worked so far. For example, the prequels laid down the barebones groundwork for later series like The Clone Wars, The Bad Batch, Tales of the Jedi, and publishing initiatives like The High Republic to develop around it. Star Wars Rebels and Andor are puzzle pieces for the original trilogy. With the Dawn of the Jedi from James Mangold and Daisy Ridley‘s Rey Skywalker film, these two movies especially could lay a foundation for future projects like television series, books, comics, and more.

Still, after the success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it would have been exciting to see what Kevin Feige would have brought to Star Wars. Working in a different franchise would have been an excellent opportunity to see what Feige could do. Perhaps in the future, the opportunity will arise again.
