Young Jedi Adventures recap: An Adventure With Yoda
Young Jedi Adventures “An Adventure with Yoda” opens with Yoda (Piotr Michael) leading the Tenoo Jedi Younglings through the forest on speeder bikes, zipping over the river. Kai Brightstar (Jamaal Avery Jr.), Lys Solay (Juliet Donenfeld), and Nubs (Dee Bradley Baker) are ecstatic about spending the entire day with the Grand Master.
In their path is a massive series of tree roots, looming high as a building. Yoda tells the children to trust their training and choose how to navigate it in a split-second decision. Lys and Nubs go over, which gets them a face full of leaves. Kai breaks through the tunnel, his speeder bike getting battered. The three pop out on the other side, a little worse for wear.
After parking their bikes, Kai asks Yoda how can they succeed when they’re zipping around incredibly fast. Yoda believes in their abilities, and the kids should, too.
Suddenly, their pilot friend Nash Durango (Emma Berman) arrives with her droid RJ-83. Her buddy Zepher is in trouble and needs the Jedi to help her! Pirates broke into Zepher’s shop and threatened to take Jedi Vector ships and anything else they could grab.
The Jedi kids are super excited to fight real pirates with THE Yoda. And Yoda and Nash aren’t as amused at their shenanigans because someone is in danger. Regardless, they get on Nash’s ship and head out to the planet with Zepher’s shop.
Arriving, the pirates’ ship is still there. Yoda tells Nash to stay with her ship in case the Jedi need a quick escape, something Nash isn’t happy about. So, she leaves RJ in charge to head in to help bust up some pirates!
The pirates are rummaging through Zepher’s shop, and they have the symbol of the Nihil on their clothes. Nihil are the villains of the High Republic era. At the time of Young Jedi Adventures, the Republic simply thinks they are a group of raiders in the Outer Rim and nothing more. Their leader, Marchion Ro, has not yet enacted his grand plan against the Republic or Jedi, remaining in the shadows.
Back to the episode, Yoda and the Younglings confront the Nihil, but the bad guys have a trick up their sleeve. They bring out a group of droids to attack the Jedi, looking like an early version of what will become the Droidekas from the prequel trilogy and The Clone Wars.
The droids attack, and the Jedi battle them. Nash arrives to find Zepher, wanting to get him out of there. They both climb into a Vector, but Nash sees a droid sneaking up on the Jedi. She hops out, leaving Zepher on his own to warn the Jedi. Yoda stops the attack with the Force and removes the rest of the droids.
As Nash is distracted, the Nihil hop in the Vector with Zepher, not realizing he’s there. They take off in the ship, bringing their unknowing hostage with them. Nash feels horrible at her mistake as the pirates fly away.
The Jedi encourage Nash, saying they still need her to pilot. They hurry into her ship, zooming after the pirates into space. The Nihil zip into an asteroid field to try and lose them.
Nash is still feeling down on herself for not listening to Yoda before. Kai, Lys, and Nubs tell Nash their lesson from earlier: She needs to calm down, breathe, and focus on the challenge in front of her and do it. They believe in her.
Nash takes charge, giving them each assignment to scan or blast their way into the asteroid field. She stays close to the Nihil, even impressing Yoda.
The next step is Yoda’s reaching out with the Force. The Grand Master opens the back hatch of the Nihil ship and plucks up the Vectors with the Force with Zepher still inside. Guiding them out, Yoda pulls Zepher to safety. The Nihil decide to cut and run, fleeing from the scene.
Returning to the shop, Yoda says how proud he is of all the kids, Nash included. With the day saved, they work together to clean up Zepher’s shop.
