Ahsoka season 2 lightsaber training teases intense action

Ahsoka Season 2 might just deliver the most refined lightsaber duels we've seen in the Disney+ era, at least if this cast training video is anything to go by.

Ahsoka season 2 is already giving us major Jedi energy, well before the first episode airs. The latest buzz comes from Ezra Bridger himself: actor Eman Esfandi, who plays the Rebels Jedi in live action, shared a behind-the-scenes Instagram reel giving fans a taste of what’s to come.

Esfandi’s moves are impressive: fluid saber swings, lightning-fast spins, and a soundtrack-worthy flourish that wouldn’t look out of place in an action montage. He captioned the clip, “This little light(saber) of mine, I’m gonna let it shine. Y’all got me hyped up—thank you for the love, may the force be with you.”

This BTS lightsaber practice sets an exciting tone. Ezra is ready to take center stage in the next chapter.

In season 1, Ezra was more of a narrative fulcrum (pun intended) than an active protagonist. His lightsaber use was mostly off-screen.  Esfandi’s training video signals a shift. The choreography suggests Ezra will have a larger, more dynamic role this season, possibly even partnering with Rosario Dawson’s Ahsoka Tano and Sabine Wren, played by Natasha Liu Bordizzo, in major confrontations.

The entire cast has been going hard to give fans an amazing sophomore season. Dawson shared bruises from week one of filming, and co-star Ivanna Sakhno described it as “bigger” and “more in-depth” than the first season.

Lightsabers aren’t just props in the Star Wars universe. These weapons are extensions of personality and philosophy – just consider Ahsoka’s two white sabers if you need proof. As Entertainment Weekly reported before the first season, Dawson spent two hours a day, seven days a week, training with stunt coordinator Ming Qiu to master Ahsoka’s ambidextrous, dual-hilt style. That painstaking discipline shows on screen, with Ahsoka’s recognizable form that blends katana-inspired precision with Jedi fluidity.

It looks like Ezra is following suit. Esfandi’s Instagram post reveals a sleek blue training saber and natural movement. It’s clear the ensemble is committed to matching Ahsoka’s cinematic intensity on Disney+.

What to watch for in Ahsoka season 2

1. Ezra vs. Ezra

Ezra’s journey, both as a Jedi and as a character at large, has always been internal as much as external. His relationship with Kanan Jarrus proved that time and time again in Rebels. Now it seems he’ll finally get his moment to master his weapon, confront his past (with Thrawn looming), and redefine his role in the Jedi legacy.

2. Team-Style Battles

Training footage suggests more choreographed sequences with multiple sabers. Whether it’s Ezra, Ahsoka, Sabine, or guest stars, Season 2 may lean into group dynamics rather than isolated duels.

3. Realistic Wear and Tear

As Dawson proved, these fights are gritty and the actors aren’t holding back. Expect the second season of this Dave Filoni series to showcase lightsaber combat built from real choreography, rather than flashy spectacle. This isn’t the sequel trilogy, people.

Ahsoka’s strength now lies in character arcs fans care about paired with authentic action. Esfandi’s lightsaber training is proof that this isn’t Star Wars-lite on the small screen. It’s a true continuation of the Star Wars story, with Ezra ready to step out of Ahsoka’s shadow once and for all.

As Filoni and crew continue to blur the lines between animated origin and live‑action evolution, giving Ezra room to grow in the lightsaber department isn’t just fan service, it’s critical storytelling. Plus, with fan-favorite directors officially confirmed for Season 2, including some returning from Season 1’s strongest episodes, the lightsaber scenes are poised to be even more cinematic and emotionally charged than before (full list here).
