The upcoming Rey Skywalker film focused on the New Jedi Order starring Daisy Ridley was bumped from the 2026 release date. When it happened, it was a move that I was okay with because I wanted the creators to take their time instead of rushing to meet some deadline. It is a sentiment that Daisy Ridley agrees with.

Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter while promoting her upcoming film Cleaner, Ridley was asked about her upcoming Star Wars film and they were valuing quality over quickness of release. She said:

"People have talked about it a lot that the release date often affects films and how quickly things go into production. So the freedom to make sure that this script is the best way to tell this story is wonderful, and I don’t think any fans would want it to be rushed. The wait will be worth it. I know what George Nolfi is working on, and he is a phenomenal writer. So I’m really looking forward to reading it, and yes, it’s all worthwhile. "

She's right. Fans want great quality movies and, speaking for myself, I think they're worth the wait if we get the best product in the end.

Every update is getting me more excited for this movie, as it sounds like the team and the idea are really coming together. Ridley shared that she is more hands-on than she was before with the sequel trilogy. Pair this with the political backgrounds of both writer George Nolfi and director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy's past work with Ridley's own thoughts that Star Wars has always been political, and I think this is shaping up to be a banger movie.

It's going to be an interesting time period to explore, taking place years after the events of The Rise of Skywalker. The New Republic was decimated during the sequel trilogy. With many of the leaders killed or passed away during the events of those films, it will be interesting to see who is in charge of the galaxy and how that may or may not impact Rey trying to get a new Jedi Order off the ground. We'll have to wait and see how the film shakes up.

I'm sure we'll get more updates at Star Wars Celebration Japan, which is just a few months away in April. With Oscar Isaac announced as a guest (though it's also the ten-year anniversary of The Force Awakens), we might get a sneaky announcement about his involvement in the Rey movie, too.
