We got a glimpse of what to expect from Ahsoka season 2 at the Star Wars Celebration 2025 in Tokyo, Japan. Rosario Dawson, who plays the titular character, joined showrunners Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau on the LIVE! Stage and discussed, among other things, the stories and characters of the second season.
Filoni announced that they will start filming season 2 in a week. Before Filoni delved into more details, Dawson confirmed that Hayden Christensen was returning as Anakin Skywalker. She reminisced about being in acting school with Christensen (which was also attended by Scarlett Johansson) and how naturally their real-life longtime friendship translated on the screen as everyone's beloved Skyguy and Snips.
However, Filoni made it very clear that he was not trying to tell more stories about Anakin. His inclusion in Ahsoka stems entirely from him being her former master.
"A very clear line I draw for myself is that Anakin's story was already told. George [Lucas] did that. I don't have to add anything to that," he said. "I don't have to explain anything about it. What George did is what he wanted, and it's perfect. The story I'm telling is about Ahsoka. The reason why Anakin can be in this is because he's relative to her story."
Filoni added that he has been very careful in Anakin's portrayal in Ahsoka so as not to change any existing storylines or traits of the character.
What's going to happen in Ahsoka season 2?
Dave Filoni went on to share some tidbits of what Ahsoka season 2 will look like and which characters will return.
"Half of it is a really, really big battle," Filoni said. "There is going to be a war in our Star Wars - like an all-out throwdown on a scale, as best as Jon Favreau and I can afford it."
Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen), Ezra Bridger (Eman Esfandi), General Hera Syndulla (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), and Admiral Ackbar (Elden Bennett) will be heavily involved. Natasa Liu Bordizzo will return as Sabine Wren as well. Much to fans' glee, Filoni confirmed that Chopper will also play a significant role.
"A lot more Chopper, and because of the way you guys are about it, he does some really messed up stuff. I don't know why he does these things! But they all seem to like it," Filoni said. As the final reveal, Filoni announced that Zeb from Star Wars Rebels will be in Ahsoka season 2.
"Because you guys asked for it and Jon's been playing with him so much, and I want my toy back, we put Zeb in Ahsoka."
Zeb Orrelios (Steve Blum) made his live-action debut in The Mandalorian season 3, episode 5, in a scene with Captain Carson Teva (Paul Sun-Hyung Lee). He will reappear in Favreau's The Mandalorian & Grogu as well.
The team, later joined by Hayden Christensen at the Ahsoka panel, also discussed the recasting of Baylan Skoll. Filoni announced that Rory McCann will step into the shoes of Ray Stevenson, who passed away in May 2023.
"You'll love him. We love him. The Force is with him," Filoni said. Two pictures of him in Skoll's gear and a red lightsaber were revealed.

We will also see the adorable Loth kittens, which will undoubtedly be fan-favorite merchandise. As for the big cliffhanger mystery about the Mortis Gods revealed in the season 1 finale, Filoni said, "It's a big mystery. The Father is there. The Son is there. Most of the Daughter is there."
We'll have to wait and see what happens in season 2. For now, Ahsoka season 1 is on Disney+.
