We're quickly coming up on Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, which means that the promotional material is heating up. Hot off the heels of the full trailer, on moment in particular caught a fan's eye and made us wonder if a fan favorite character would return to Star Wars.
In one shot of the trailer, user Nick Tierce pointed out on his Twitter account that a ship in the background looked like the vessel of Hondo Ohnaka. The Katooni can be seen at Disney's Galaxy's Edge for the ride Smugglers Run, which Nick compared the ship in the trailer to.
We've discussed on this site before that Hondo would be a great fit for Skeleton Crew, so seeing what could be the Katooni is incredibly exciting. They could follow in The Book of Boba Fett's steps with how they brought Cad Bane to life, with Corey Burton reprising his role as the voice of Bane and Dorian Kingi as the body performance. Jim Cumming could voice Hondo while someone plays him in live-action, something we discussed here.
Hondo would be a great fit for Skeleton Crew! From The Clone Wars to Star Wars Rebels, it was the influence of children who put him on his character arc. He starts the series a ruthless albeit fun pirate character. People seem to forget the Jedi Youngling arc of Season 5 of The Clone Wars has Hondo excited to murder some children for their lightsabers. However, because of their influence, specifically from Katooni, who his ship is later named after, Hondo changes drastically. He's more willing to fight (and scam) villains like the Empire. His relationship with Ezra Bridger is an important one in Rebels. We also know that he is around in Skeleton Crew's timeline thanks to the Galaxy's Edge which is canonically happening in the Mandoverse timeline.
To be honest, this little cameo of his ship is probably the closest we'll get to Hondo in the series. It's a nod that he's around. Still, it's fun to think about such a beloved character jumping into live action. We have to wait and see!
Skeleton Crew arrives on Disney+ on December 3.
