Disney recently announced that Andor Season 1 and Obi-Wan Kenobi will get a 4K UHD and Blu-Ray release on April 30th of this year. It was only a matter of time before these shows would arrive on physical media after the release of The Mandalorian Seasons 1 and 2 came out in 4K UHD. However, the packaging for these physical releases may have dropped a hint regarding the future of Obi-Wan Kenobi.

While the other shows that have been released on physical media make it very clear that they're just the first or second seasons of the show, the Obi-Wan Kenobi physical copy makes it clear that it's "The Complete Series," which seems to suggest that there's no hope of a second season of the show. This isn't entirely shocking because, according to Ewan McGregor, Kenobi was written as a limited series and was never meant to have another season. However, McGregor has repeatedly expressed his interest in doing another season of the show.

Although this isn't an official announcement that a second season is out of the question, it's disappointing for anyone who hoped to continue Obi-Wan's story, including Ewan McGregor himself. McGregor and Christensen both seem very eager to do more with their characters, and they might still be able to do so, but it may not come in Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2.

Although the story seemed complete when the show ended, there are still a few years between the end of the series and A New Hope, and many fans had hoped that another season of the show would explore Obi-Wan's time on Tatooine and his connection to his deceased Master, Qui-Gon Jinn. Qui-Gon finally appeared to Obi-Wan at the show's end, signaling that the two would now speak to each other often. Qui-Gon would pass on more of his teachings to his former Padawan, including how to become one with the Force.

Another season of the show would also be more likely to take place entirely on Tatooine and allow for a look at Luke Skywalker's childhood and the relationship between the young Skywalker and Uncle Ben. For now, however, it seems that Disney has no plans to continue Obi-Wan Kenobi's story. That could always change because, as Yoda says, "Always in motion is the future."

Obi-Wan Kenobi is streaming on Disney+, and you can buy the series in 4K UHD and Blu-Ray on April 30th, 2024.
