New video celebrates 25 years of LEGO Star Wars in an adorably meta way!
LEGO Star Wars is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year! To party alongside fans and showcase their love for the franchise, the LEGO company has released a 3-minute-long video celebrating this collaboration in the most adorably meta way possible!
This video opens with a young Anakin Skywalker in the midst of his podrace in Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace, which is a fitting way to kick off the short. Episode I is also celebrating it's 25th anniversary this year with LEGO Star Wars being founded in 1999.
What follows is a celebration of all eras of Star Wars. We see the crew from Young Jedi Adventures, Cal Kestis and BD-1 from Jedi: Fallen Order swooping in to rescue Saw Gerrera and Cassian from Andor, and the Ghost crew from Star Wars Rebels. This short seamlessly weaves together the eras. Han Solo flies the Millennium Falcon in the original trilogy to the sequels. Yoda shifts from his Return of the Jedi look into his High Republic-era self. Ahsoka Tano is both with Huyang in The Clone Wars and her titular series, Ahsoka.
The best part of this celebratory video is how it ignores canon. This is a party with all of our favorite characters together in one place. As Yoda hands The Mandalorian's Grogu a camera so everyone can take a group picture together, it reminded me so much of Disney's 2023 short film Once Upon A Studio as 100 years of characters came together. While Star Wars hasn't been around that long, it does have plenty of memorable and beloved figures from its own decades of storytelling.
Part of it's 2th anniversary celebration, LEGO Star Wars also has plenty of new sets like the TIE Interceptor and the Tantive IV releasing this year. Also, the collectable book LEGO Star Wars: The Force of Creativity by Graham E. Hancock all about the history of the LEGO Star Wars brand with behind the scenes interviews arrives on July 20.
Happy birthday to LEGO Star Wars. From your games to your fun meta-breaking series to sets all collectors want and more, here's to the next 25 years teaming up with a galaxy far, far away.
