Fans of the Star Wars TV shows have already had a busy summer with The Acolyte, and news is coming out about fan-favorite projects such as The Mandalorian and Andor. While we're still following every drop of information about future reasons for fandom, we are just over a week from another season of the Young Jedi Adventures.
It's already been confirmed that the trio of Jedi younglings we met last season will be given more responsibilities and have higher stakes. Taborr and Raxlo are returning as antagonists, while new characters will be added, such as a new padawan Wes Vinik (voiced by Gunnar Sizemore) and R0-M1
This often-whimsical show isn't just for kids, but if you want a sneak peek of the adventures of Kai, Lys, and Nubs, you can find them on the Star Wars Kids Youtube Channel. A series of shorts has been released, and they encapsulate what we love about this youngling-facing show while also introducing new aspects of the story. Here are what I consider to be the best of each primary character.
A personal favorite is "Younglings in the Wild" which sees Lys in a leadership role. New younglings have arrived, and she is not only the voice of experience but the very necessary chaperone as one of them gets literally carried away while appreciating the local wildlife. It's good to see her maturing and still staying true to herself.
Meanwhile, "Nubs-tacle Course" shows our favorite Poobian struggling to prove himself in a physical challenge already easily completed by a classmate. I was a klutzy kid and know what it's like to feel impatient at my shortcomings, so I appreciated Nubs' diligence as much as the props he got from Master Yoda.
Kai has a number of amusing and instructive roles to play in the shorts, but "Junkyard Joust" features an old trope: Taborr vs. Brightstar. The kid pirate shows up at Malaa's and it's up to Kai to protect his friend's interests. He's humbled by being outmatched, but then is also taught a mini-lesson in making assumptions when it turns out that Taborr is there for completely legitimate reasons.
There are other things to enjoy, from the droids taking center stage to a flying lesson with Master Zia's new Padawan. Check them out before Season 2 comes to a Tenoo near you on August 14.
