Star Wars: The Acolyte episode 4, "Day," was quite a thriller. Despite only being about a half hour, excluding the credits, it packed in a good amount of action and intrigue. What about that insane ending, though?
Star Wars: The Acolyte Episode 4, "Day" Ending Explained
After episode 3, "Destiny," of the series took us down memory lane to see what happened, or at least part of what happened, on Brendok 16 years before the events of the series, episode 4 picks back up with the Jedi trying to stop Mae before she kills another Jedi. This time, she is on the hunt for the Wookiee Jedi Master Kelnacca on the planet Khofar.
While Mae and her trusty assistant, and potentially her red lightsaber-wielding master, Qimir, go into the forest of Khofar to try to track down Kelnacca, the Jedi convene a mission to go to Khofar to try to stop this next killing. Before they leave Coruscant, Sol convinces Osha to tag along.
Long story short: Mae decides, rather suddenly, that she cares about Osha more than her Master, and she betrays Qimir by tying him up in a trap while she plans to turn herself over to Kelnacca. The Jedi chase her to Kelnacca's hut, too. We see that before Mae can turn herself in, Kelnacca has already been killed by a lightsaber wound to the chest. This causes Mae to realize that her Master is already there.
Right on cue, the Master appears behind the Jedi and comes face-to-face with Osha. We see this character's ultra-creepy mask, which almost appears to have teeth the way it is designed. In the dramatic final moments of the episode, this mysterious figure lights their red lightsaber, which causes the Jedi to ignite their sabers and charge. With a simple wave of the hand, this figure pushes Osha aside and pushes all of the Jedi back with a Force push. That is the end of the episode.
Naturally, everyone wonders who this mysterious figure is. Many people believe that the character is Qimir, and there is certainly evidence to suggest that. Even though he was strung up, if he possessed such great powers, it would not be impossible for him to have gotten free and killed Kelnacca before Mae arrived. Or could Qimir be the acolyte and not Mae?
No matter who this character is, they clearly possess powers that these Jedi have never seen before. The ease with which they push back a half dozen charging Jedi is remarkable and shows that this will not be an easy force for the Jedi to stop.
Another thing to keep an eye on is Sol's eventual truth bomb to Osha. Before the confrontation with the dark figure, he tells her that he will explain everything about his past and his need to overcome it. It is clear that he is still feeling guilt about what happened on Brendok, and we will surely get more flashbacks as the series goes on that will almost certainly reveal that the Jedi did not act in the best way imaginable.
After such a big cliffhanger, it is hard not to be excited about what next week's episode will bring. There are so many questions to be answered and so many theories to be validated. Or debunked! Until then, we can all speculate to our heart's desire.
