Disney's D23 Fan Expo took place in Anaheim, California last night. It proved big for Star Wars fans, especially those in attendance, as they were treated to exclusive teasers of The Mandalorian & Grogu and Andor Season 2.
While a trailer for Skeleton Crew and footage of Andor Season 2 were expected, I was surprised to learn that everyone in attendance also got a look at the highly anticipated The Mandalorian & Grogu. Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau took the stage to present the exclusive new footage from the movie and confirmed that it has begun filming.
While that footage is online, it hasn't been officially released by Star Wars, so if you've seen it, it's probably not in the best quality. However, I watched it a few times, and here are some things I learned about the movie:
1. Din Djarin and Grogu will team up with Zeb Orrelios
This was a fun moment for all of us Star Wars Rebels fans that was set up in The Mandalorian Season 3's finale, where we saw Zeb sitting at the same bar Din and Grogu entered towards the end of Chapter 24. Din and Grogu probably teamed up with Zeb on Adelphi Base, on the planet of Adelphi, and we'll probably see them working together pretty often. Now that Din knows Zeb, there's a good chance he'll meet the rest of Zeb's friends. Who knows, perhaps Din's next stop is Ahsoka Season 2.
2. The Razor Crest is back
The Razor Crest is back and looking better than ever, but Zeb is the one who has the controls in the cockpit, so we don't know yet if the Crest belongs to him or Din. Perhaps Peli Motto hooked Din up with a brand new Razor Crest, just as he wished in The Book of Boba Fett, Chapter 5 - "The Return of the Mandalorian." This likely means that Din will have two ships, including the N1 Starfighter. The Starfighter will be handy when he needs something speedy, and the Razor Crest is his airborne home with Grogu.
3. Din considers himself a Bounty Hunter again
Din is back in the Bounty Hunting trade, but he's selective about it, as Grogu is his main priority. This sets him up to go on missions again, like in Season 1, but these missions will probably be exclusive and involve targeting high-profile individuals.
4. Din and Grogu will visit Hoth
Here's a great nod to the original trilogy as Din and Grogu are seen on what is most probably the icy planet of Hoth. This section of the trailer features a mouse droid, an AT-RT operated by Din, AT-ATs, and dozens of Snowtroopers. It looks like some pretty exciting business!
5. Grogu may start assisting Din on his missions
The teaser features a shot of Grogu crawling through a shaft, which makes it seem like he's either trying to hide from someone based on his Dad's instructions or helping Mando on a mission by crawling to retrieve something. As Grogu is beginning to learn the Mandalorian ways, this could be a part of his lessons as an apprentice.
Hopefully, we'll see this teaser in high definition before the Star Wars Celebration, which isn't until next year. It's not much, but I'm pleased with what I saw, even with the grainy quality.
The Mandalorian & Grogu premieres May 22, 2026.
