The Mandalorian star reveals character's surprising ties to Princess Leia

The first conversation Paul Sun-Hyung Lee had with The Mandalorian showrunners Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni did not divulge much information except for a significant detail about his character's home planet.
Lee, who plays New Republic's Captain Carson Teva in the Mandoverse, recently spoke about his character's backstory to fellow Star Wars actor Katee Sackhoff (Bo-Katan Kryze) on The Sackhoff Show. During the conversation, Lee revisited his initial phone call with Favreau and Filoni. "[They] didn't give me a lot of details," Lee said. "They just basically said, 'He's from Alderaan, he's like a...' Jon said 'He's like a New York City cop.'"
Captain Teva was first introduced in The Mandalorian Season 2, episode 2 as one of the X-Wing pilots chasing Din Djarin's Razor Crest. Later on, he appears in Ahsoka and The Book of Boba Fett as well, as his importance in the narrative grew over time. However, this particular detail was never revealed in the show.
In The Mandalorian, Carson tells Cara Dune, who also hailed from the same planet, that he "served" in the Rebel Alliance when the Death Star destroyed Alderaan, which also happens to be the home of Princess Leia Organa.
Despite that being the only mention of the planet, it is evident that Alderaan had meant to play an integral part in at least some of the Star Wars spinoff shows, especially since Carson Teva was meant to be one of the stars in the now-canceled Rangers of the New Republic series.
Having occurred early on in the original trilogy, the tragedy of Alderaan is often glossed over, serving as only an example of the Death Star's might. But we might finally get to see more about that between this reveal and Leia's holographic intervention at General Hera Syndulla's court hearing in Ahsoka. Captain Teva was also present at the hearing and was last seen talking to Hera and C-3PO, who presented Leia's transmission to the court.
While the cancellation of Rangers of the New Republic is unfortunate, it is possible that we could see some of its storylines playing out in other shows of the "Mandoverse." The Mandalorian Season 3 introduced viewers to Adelphi Base. At the end of the season, Din Djarin was seen teaming up with the Rangers to help the New Republic hunt remnant Imperials. With the looming threat of Admiral Thrawn and an existing spy network in Coruscant, there is a chance we could see more of Captain Teva and his ties with Alderaan.
