Who would've thought that Crosshair would become so fiercely protective of Omega?
The latest episodes of The Bad Batch, "Infiltration" and "Extraction," show a significant growth in Crosshair's personality. Gone are the days when Crosshair was the guy who betrayed his brothers with the belief that the Empire would reward his loyalty. He's learned his lesson, and now that he's back with the Batch, he's a far better person than he ever was. Crosshair and Omega have developed a powerful bond during their time at Mount Tantiss. In Omega, he's found someone he cares about more than himself.
He always loved his brothers. If he didn't, then he wouldn't have returned to them. However, it doesn't seem like he's ever cared about anyone the way he cares about Omega. He wants her to be safe, and he's angry that she went through everything she experienced at Mount Tantiss. He even holds Hunter, whom he knows would do anything for Omega, responsible for her being captured. Crosshair is now showing his true feelings very openly, and that's the most pleasant development of his character.
In Episode 7, "Extraction," Crosshair asks Omega if she can carry all the heavy equipment and whether she has her crossbow. He warns her about getting lost in the terrain, and she tells him, "You're as bad as Hunter." This implies that she thinks he's even more protective of her than Hunter, and Crosshair quips, "Oh. I'm much worse." He knows he cares about Omega and is not afraid to show it.
It's great to see the changes in Crosshair's personality, as it's the type of character growth we expect from the writing of a show in its final season. However, this is probably more than many fans expected from him. Most fans wanted Crosshair to return to his brothers and be given a redemption arc, but very few could have imagined that he'd be so altered by everything he experienced.
Crosshair is now in his dad phase, and Hunter should watch out because he has competition. Omega is already copying Crosshair's signature toothpick-in-mouth move, and pretty soon, she'll be passing snarky comments too. Sarcasm still heavily features Crosshair's personality, but he's no longer rough around the edges. He has softened considerably, and now everyone is curious to see how this will play into the remainder of the season.
Everyone cares about Omega. She's given her brothers something to fight for, something bigger than themselves. They're fighting to protect Omega's childhood, so she can have everything they never did, all of them, including Crosshair.
