The Bad Batch: Is Omega destined to be a Jedi?
Has Asajj Ventress found her future padawan in Omega?
The Bad Batch's latest episode, "The Harbinger," seems to hint that Omega may end up following in the footsteps of former Jedi Asajj Ventress. Even though Omega's M-count is still a question, and she didn't pass all the tests Ventress put her through, she saw something that convinced her that Omega should be trained.
Omega has limited knowledge about the galaxy and doesn't know much, if anything, about Force sensitivity and what a Jedi Knight is like. Ventress has offered to train her, which Hunter refuses without another thought. However, there are still a few episodes left in the season. Omega might spend more time with Ventress or observe her when they meet again and decide that training is something she wants.
In "The Harbinger," Omega gets a closer look at Ventress's force abilities, including her ability to connect with nature, which Omega has also displayed. Omega has been able to tame Batcher and develop a strong connection with the creature. Even though she knows nothing outside of her life on Kamino and the adventures with her brothers, Ventress has given her an idea of one of the opportunities out there for her. Between now and the end of the season, it seems highly possible that this idea will be explored further.
What I liked about Ventress in this episode is that her approach to the idea of training Omega is very practical. She's looking at things from a very realistic standpoint. Ventress knows the reality hands-on and understands the threat the Empire poses for everyone, whether it's Omega, Clone Force 99, or herself. In these dire times, Ventress knows that Omega can only be protected by her brothers for so long, and she must tap into her Force abilities to reach her full potential. Clone Force 99 aren't safe on Pabu or anywhere, and the Empire can track anyone down.
While her brothers have taught her everything they know, Omega remains vulnerable. Being a soldier may not be enough for her in the coming years of her life. It's something Ventress can foresee as someone who's experienced both the good and bad in the galaxy. This also makes it seem like Ventress believes Omega has the talent, or maybe the M-count needed to be a Jedi, even if she says otherwise. If not, why would she offer to train Omega?
The series writers know exactly what they're doing, and we're pretty sure that this isn't the last we've seen of Ventress. There's a future for her as Omega's Master. They would make a very interesting, albeit unlikely, Master and Padawan duo and continue the tradition of out-of-the-box Master and Padawan duos.
