How The Bad Batch could set up Ventress in Tales of the Jedi S2
Asajj Ventress is back from the dead in The Bad Batch Season 3 episode "The Harbinger," but her exciting return gives us plenty to ponder. Ventress died in the novel Star Wars: Dark Disciple, so her return is a shocker for anyone who read that novel.
Though a return from the dead might not sit too well with fans who hold Star Wars books and comics close to their hearts, the series creators and Ventress' voice actor Nika Futterman insist that everything will be "revealed in future content." Many fans have been speculating what "future content" will continue Ventress's story, and one obvious guess is Tales of the Jedi Season 2, which is just around the corner.
Tales of the Jedi Season 2 will be released later this year, and The Bad Batch Episode 9, "The Harbinger," perfectly sets up a possible return for Ventress in the series. The series can easily explore multiple decades in Ventress's life, starting from The Clone Wars to the post-Empire era, if she survives until then.
"The Harbinger" raises the question of how Ventress survived, what she's been up to since the end of the Clone Wars, and what's next for her. This arc can be perfectly explored in Tales of the Jedi's format of following characters over several years and highlighting important events in their lives. In Season 1, fans got a look at Ahsoka Tano's life from her birth to her training under Anakin Skywalker, her reaction to the loss of Anakin and Padme, and her life after the fall of the Republic- where she took on an Inquisitor with ease.
Following a similar pattern, the show can take us back to Ventress's life during The Clone Wars, specifically how she managed to survive Count Dooku's fatal force-lightening attack in Dark Disciple, and what she did afterward. How has she survived the Jedi Purge? Ventress warns Clone Force 99 that they are in danger on Pabu, and the Empire is far more dangerous than they know. Ventress is familiar with what the Empire is doing at this point.
Tales of the Jedi can also give us a look into Ventress's future. The Bad Batch hints that Ventress has the potential to train force-sensitive beings and has developed a very strong connection to the Force. If she decides to take on a few apprentices of her own, it would certainly take her story in a very different direction, one that most of us never saw coming.
Finally, there's the question of Jedi Knight Quinlan Vos, whom Ventress dies protecting in Star Wars; Dark Disciple. In Obi-Wan Kenobi, it's revealed that Vos is very much alive and works for "The Path," a secret pathway through which Force sensitives are taken to safety. Is it possible that in a few years, Ventress and Vos may end up meeting again, if they haven't met already, and work for "The Path?" Tales of the Jedi is a great opportunity to explore this as a possible angle of Asajj Ventress's story.
As of now, Lucasfilm hasn't given any plot details for Tales of the Jedi Season 2, so it's a stretch to say that Ventress is a lock for the series. However, thanks to the creators of The Bad Batch, we can confirm that her story will continue in future stories. Fans have a lot of questions they need answered about her return.
