Skeleton Crew: 3 final predictions for the show
Skeleton Crew is here! After all the months of waiting, it's time to go on an adventure tomorrow with four awesome kids and a Force user. Before the show gets here, let's have some last-minute speculative fun.
Here are 3 predictions for Star Wars: Skeleton Crew!
1. Hondo Ohnaka
The creators of the show have said that there will be no "crazy" cameos like Jude Law's character being a Palpatine. However, in the same quote, Jon Watts says "not to rule anything out..." Hondo would not be a crazy cameo. Thanks to Galaxy's Edge in the Disney parks, he's well-established to be in the sequel trilogy timeline. Also, what looked like his ship was in a shot in the trailer. His kind of cameo would be for the animation watchers. I don't think he would play a major role in the series. I think a Hondo cameo would somehow have him in the background or, at most, be handled like Zeb in Season 3 of The Mandalorian with him in passing.
2. Their utopian home is a New Republic prison
The four kid protagonists come from what looks like a perfect suburban home. However, thanks to past promotional material, they discover that no one has heard of their planet once they get out into the galaxy. The trailer showed there are droids with cameras for heads roaming around their world, watching Wim's father. Fern's mother warns him that things are not what they seem. I predict that this is a New Republic prison, perhaps for the Amnesty Program, as seen in The Mandalorian. This is still a Mandoverse show, so it would be a nice tie-in to the bigger story. Ancillary materials like Alphabet Squadron by Alexander Freed showed that the New Republic used prison camps for the worst of the worst Imperials. Perhaps this world in Skeleton Crew is for the not-so-bad Imperials, the normal people who had no choice (think Tam Ryvora's grandfather in Star Wars Resistance, who worked in a factory because there were no other jobs). It's strange that everything is so perfect on the planet and yet, no one knows about it. There is something more sinister going on.
3. Wim is Force sensitive
This is the outlier of the three predictions and the one I hope doesn't happen. Still, it would be a very Star Wars kind of story. Wim is the dreamer who wants more adventures. He gets his wish, going on a journey across the galaxy. Meeting a Force user like Jod Na Nawood, Wim could discover he's destined for bigger things. He could be Force sensitive, and Jod could become his master. It's a tried and true Star Wars story, so I can't rule it out. Though, I think letting the kids just be kids on a wild trek across the galaxy is all the story needs.
Star Wars: Skeleton Crew arrives on Disney+ Monday December 2.
