Young Jedi Adventures is the little preschool show that keeps on winning. The Emmy Award-winning series is up for another prestigious accolade. It has been nominated for the 36th Annual GLAAD Media Awards for Outstanding Children's Programming. The award ceremony takes place on March 27.
It is one of the 10 all-ages series up in the nomination. The others are Strawberry Shortcake: Berry in the Big City, The Fairy OddParents: A New Wish, Firebuds, Fraggle Rock: Back to the Rock, Let's Go, Bananas!, Monster High, Sesame Street, Princess Power, and Vida the Vet.
The GLAAD Media Awards are a huge deal. According to their website, the award show will "recognize and honor media for their fair, accurate and inclusive representations of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) community and the issues that affect their lives." GLAAD is the largest media advocacy group that helps "battle discrimination with fact" and celebrates media that pushes forward these ideals.
This is absolutely Young Jedi Adventures. The series has been praised for its LGBTQIA+ characters. Just a few examples include the Jedi Padawan Djovi Resmia, a non-binary youngling who befriends Kai Brightstar and the other heroes of the show in the Season 1 episode, "Clash." They are voiced by queer voice actor Valeria Rodriguez, who goes by any and all pronouns. Another example are the moms of the main character Nash Durango. Her moms, Kryys and Ceeli, were first introduced in the Season 1 episode, "Nash's Race Day."
The progressive storytelling is part of what makes Young Jedi Adventures so important. This kind of storytelling is needed now more than ever to show that queer people exist and have stories to tell. They have always been here. They will always be here. We're not going anywhere. There is a reason Young Jedi Adventures continues to be an Awards darling among all the Star Wars shows. It's been praised across the board, nabbing multiple Emmys two years in a row, which is more than other Star Wars series can say.
The 36th GLAAD Media Awards will be held on March 27, 2025.
