Hold fast and prepare your heart, Project Luminous fans. We now have the cover and the first preview of the final adult novel in The High Republic. Trials of the Jedi by Charles Soule will arrive on June 17.
Gizmodo is the one who revealed the cover, shared above via Star Wars Explained's Twitter account. Definitely click on that to see the whole image because it's wonderful. As a Bell Zettifar fan, I have all the feelings about seeing my boy on that cover and watching the project come to an end.
The first summary was also revealed with the cover, detailing how Avar Kriss and Elzar Mann are preparing a nine Jedi team to essentially go on a suicide mission to end the war against the Nihil once and for all. Even more nerve-wracking was shared on Charles Soule's Bluesky account. If you click the image of the cover, the author wrote into the alt-text himself, "A team of armored Jedi from the High Republic face certain doom -- but charge ahead regardless."
This mission will determine the fate of the galaxy. While we have to assume they will somehow succeed because we know the timeline of Star Wars, we don't know the cost. And if this heck of a tease from Michael Siglain, Creative Director of Lucasfilm Publishing, is true, oh boy we're in for some tears! Bluesky user @patrciabeiten wrote, "They have made it so far. through all the loss and hardships. please make it to the end. Please, I know you can make it to the end," to which Siglain responded with, "Do they all have to make it to the end?"
Insert all the screaming, crying, and throwing up memes and emojis here.
Before some talking head on the internet goes off about how The High Republic is canceled, which is why it's ending because it was bad or whatever, this is not true. This was always the planned ending of the era from when it started 5 years ago. That's not to say that we won't have more stories or future books with these characters. It is more that this chapter is closing. Besides, these books have been bestseller after bestseller with beloved characters settling into the mythos of Star Wars. It produced The Acolyte, which was Disney+'s second most-watched series last year, and Young Jedi Adventures, which has won multiple Emmy Awards and is currently up for a GLAAD Award. The High Republic is a success story.
