Donald Glover Addresses Star Wars Casting Rumors And Tells Us… Nothing

Donald Glover was recently rumored to be the top contender for the role of young Lando Calrissian in the 2018 Han Solo standalone movie. In an interview with Time, Glover addressed those rumors.

Whether the rumors of Donald Glover being Disney’s first choice to revitalize the role of Lando Calrissian are true or not, Glover knows they exist and he is playing coy.

While interviewing Glover, Time broached the subject of the actor potentially being in the running to play young Lando in the 2018 Han Solo movie. Glover, in the classic secretive mode everyone affiliated with Star Wars these days is required by contract to adopt, revealed nothing.

"Okay, stop me if there’s anything you can confirm. There have been rumors that you will be in the Han Solo spinoff.Yep. There are rumors."

That’s right: Glover just confirmed there exist rumors of his impending role in the Han Solo standalone movie.

In fact, the only new thing we learned from the brief interview is Glover, like everyone else, loves Star Wars.

"How do you feel about the Star Wars franchise?I mean, I grew up on it. My dad was a big fan. I had all the toys when I was little. I had a Darth Vader with the lightsaber he has. It was cool. It’s a dynasty. It’s like the bible. I love that franchise."

Of course, we didn’t expect Glover to hand us a confirmation he is young Lando. But there must be something going on between him and Lucasfilm – negotiations, auditions, something – because Glover is playing the “I’m not saying a word” card a little too well.

With Alden Ehrenreich having been confirmed as playing young Han in Disney’s second standalone Star Wars film, announcements of other cast members may not be far behind. I think it is more probable, however, we won’t get an official casting announcement until 2017 or early 2018.
