StarWars.com officially announced the addition of Michael Kenneth Williams to the cast of the upcoming standalone Han Solo movie.

The Wire actor Michael Kenneth Williams is officially a member of the cast of the upcoming Han Solo movie.

StarWars.com made the announcement today in the wake of reports that Williams’s was in talks with Lucasfilm for a role in the 2018 film.

Production and filming on the Han Solo movie began in February. No official title or trailer are revealed, though it is still far too early for latter. The movie is slated for a premiere date of May 25th, 2018.

The movie’s cast is already quite large. It includes Alden Ehrenreich and Donald Glover as young Han Solo and Lando Calrissian, respectively with Woody Harrelson (The Hunger Games) reportedly playing a mentor figure to Han. Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones), Thandie Newton (Westworld), and Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag) round out the cast’s list of actresses, at least so far. Nothing is known about Clarke and Newton’s characters, but it is rumored that Waller-Bridge is playing a CGI character.

I hope that at least one or two of the above actors and actresses, Michael Kenneth Williams included, is playing an alien character. We saw precious little in the way of aliens as main or even secondary characters in the two most recent Star Wars movies. The majority of them, save Maz Kanata, Chewbacca, and Unkar Plutt from The Force Awakens, were merely background personalities. I could see Williams playing a tough character in the style of Zeb Orrelios from Star Wars Rebels. He could also play a bounty hunter or a smuggler. This is a story about a smuggler, after all. Then again, Williams is a great actor and will be great in any personality directors Chris Miller and Phil Lord give him.
