Dork Side theories: Phasma vs. Finn, who wins?
Finn Fights Phasma in The Last Jedi – And the winner is…
Finally, we are going to see the chromed-out Captain in action, when The Last Jedi rolls around in just a few months from now. To make the stakes even higher, Captain Phasma is going to face her most promising (former) student Finn, who looks to be more than a match for the veteran fighter. Who is going to win this epic duel in a winner takes all battle royale?

At the 1:45 mark of the new trailer, we see Captain Phasma and Finn engage in melee combat with riot control baton and staff respectively. Here’s my theory on who wins and why.

We’ve already seen that Finn can more than hold his own in a fight, and is handy with a melee weapon. His fight with both TR-8R (the Stormtrooper from The Force Awakens) and Kylo Ren, highlights his abilities as a fighter. Although he eventually succumbs to Kylo Ren, it’s more than evident that Finn is a capable combatant. He lasts longer in a fight with a Force-user than most would, and it’s clear that he should be the clear favorite in a fight with Captain Phasma.

Captain Phasma will emerge victoriously, and here are my reasons why. She is a cold-blooded survivor who will resort to any means to reach the outcome she wants. We get a vital look into Phasma’s background in the Delilah S. Dawson novel Phasma, where she does some terrible things in order to join the ranks of the First Order(we don’t want to spoil the novel for those who haven’t read it yet).
She’s also one of the main forces behind the training of First Order Stormtroopers, and reprogramming these soldiers when necessary. This is evident when she looks into Finn at the start of The Force Awakens. There’s no doubt that she’s had to deal with her fair share of “defective” Stormtroopers.

Once again just a theory…
It also dawned upon me that when we see Finn in the medical pod it could possibly be post-fight with Captain Phasma. More likely than not, Finn will be saved by Rose before Phasma can end him, which will hopefully lead to one last confrontation between the characters in the third installment of this trilogy, capping the series with a satisfying end.
The Last Jedi hits theaters December 15, where we will find out how this fight will go down. Let’s get ready to rumble!
