Porgs: Are they scary in Star Wars: The Last Jedi?

In a recent article for Entertainment Weekly, Anthony Breznican investigates whether or not the Porg should be feared.

Apparently, after shooting with the tiny baby seal and penguin hybrids, one Star Wars: The Last Jedi cast member started to get weirded out by the Porgs. John Boyega let Anthony Breznican know, that after a while the Porgs start to become “really, really freaky.”

If you want a good laugh definitely give the piece a read, but here are my thoughts on the topic.

Beware of the Porgs!

Are Porgs scary?  Like any other creature that seems incredibly cute, but manage to have tiny sharp teeth there’s an underlying menace to them.

The menace could magnify itself if one were to find themselves in a room alone with a horde of Porgs starring hungrily at them.

So yes if you think of a Porg as a smaller, penguin-like Tasmanian Devil, they can, in fact, be scary.

We all think Ewoks are cute, but often we forget that they were ready to cook up and most likely eat Han, Luke, and Chewie.

What if these crazy Porgs lulled Chewie into a false sense of security only to spring themselves on him when he least suspects it.

Let’s not forget the terror they’ve inflicted on BB-8 in this clip release day via Star Wars Blips on YouTube.

Just kidding!

Are Porgs really scary? Of course not.  Let’s be real. They’re probably goofier Star Wars versions of penguins, and I imagine they’ll be solely committing an act of unadulterated cuteness followed clumsy falling over.

You know the same old tension-breaking moments seen in other Star Wars movies.

If you do think the tiny Porg puffs of cute are scary, I do suggest staying away from pets stores in the near future. Never know when a guinea pig or puppy might scare the stuffing out of you.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi hits theatres December 15, where we will get a heavy dose of these furry (scary?) looking creatures.
