Star Wars: The Last Jedi writer/director Rian Johnson begins work on his “secret” new Star Wars trilogy.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi made a big splash at the Rakuten TV Empire Awards 2018 in London this year. The film was fan nominated for nine awards and won a grand total of five at the ceremony. Our beloved Mark Hamill won Empire’s Icon Award and thanked his supporters in the acceptance speech saying:

"“Empire I think of as a magazine written by fans, for fans. First and foremost, that describes me, and I think the fans realize that — I’m one of them. I share this with all of you, and with the fans. Without them, I certainly wouldn’t be standing here.”"

The magnificent Daisy Ridley was in attendance as well and took home the award for Best Actress. Rian Johnson won Best Director and Star Wars: The Last Jedi took home the prize for Best Film, Best Visual Effects, and Best Costuming as well. Overall, it was a great evening for the film and its fans.

In addition to the film winning big during the award ceremony, there was some more exciting news exposed that evening. In an interview with Ram Bergman, the producer of Star Wars: The Last Jedi it was revealed that work has already begun on Rian Johnson’s new trilogy! He told the reporter:

"“We’ve started. Slowly, slowly, but we’ve started. Hopefully, soon we’re going to get busier.”"

The new films will focus on parts of the galaxy hitherto unseen. What an exciting prospect! In keeping with the theme of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, this new trilogy will let the past die and will not be connected in any way with the original story.

So, what will the focus of this new saga be? I suppose we’ll just have to wait and see. You can rest assured though that as soon as we here at Dork Side of the Force hear something we’ll let you know! We’re hoping, along with Bergman, that they’ll get busy working on that new trilogy soon!
