Alden Ehrenreich nearly wasn’t Han Solo for Solo: A Star Wars Story
Han Solo was nearly played by someone other than Alden Ehrenreich for Solo: A Star Wars Story. Could you imagine the film without him as the lovable scoundrel?!
Isn’t hard to believe that Solo: A Star Wars Story has been out a week now?! Who else has seen it five times as I have? Alden Ehrenreich won me over from the word go,
I can’t imagine watching it Solo: A Star Wars Story without Alden Ehrenreich, but come to find, that was nearly the case, with another actor rising to the top of the list during the time of casting.
No, it wasn’t a CGI modified version of Harrison Ford, but Anthony Ingruber, a relatively unknown actor. He came close to becoming known worldwide, after this “audition tape” surfaced, with many Star Wars fans vying for him as the lead of Han Solo.
Fans weren’t the only ones blown away, with Jon Kasdan admitting that Anthony Ingruber, along with Alden Ehrenreich, were two of the final candidates for the role of Han Solo in Solo: A Star Wars Story.

Once again, Jon Kasdan putting angry fanboys in their place.
Impressive, most impressive. I’m not going to lie, he rocks these Han Solo impressions here — or indeed his imitation of Harrison Ford.
Honestly, it’s much like Harrison Ford, but not close enough for Anthony Ingruber to make it his own. On the other hand, Alden Ehrenreich embraces the suave and scoundrel aspects of Harrison Ford’s portrayal of Han Solo but makes the legendary Star Wars character his own. He has charisma, spunk; the “it” factor.
Lucasfilm, the Kasdans, and Lord and Miller at the time made the correct choice; hand down in selecting Alden Ehrenreich for the role. Something was lacking in Anthony Ingruber’s variation, and the casting department made the right decision — hands down.
In fact, I cannot imagine anybody else playing the role of a young Han Solo and here’s hoping they make more Han Solo and Chewie adventures!

What do you think? Did Lucasfilm get the casting of Han Solo correct, or do you feel that Anthony Ingruber (or someone else) deserved a shot?
Meanwhile, Alden Ehrenreich stars as Han Solo in Solo: A Star Wars Story, which is currently playing in theatres, worldwide.
