Felicity Jones wants to bring Jyn Erso back – Can Star Wars do it?
Felicity Jones would love to play Jyn Erso again. Is there a way Star Wars could make it happen?
We all know what happened at the end of Rogue One. Characters who quickly grew on us, having a vital hand in destroying the Death Star, sacrificed their lives for the greater good.
Afterward, we naturally thought these characters were one and done. They wouldn’t appear in other Star Wars installations. Yet, an animated version of Saw Gerrera appeared in Star Wars Rebels, and Cassian Andor is getting his own live-action series.
But what about Jyn Erso?

Jyn was the catalyst for Rogue One. She was the woman tasked with getting the schematics of the Death Star, especially because of her father’s involvement with the superweapon.
Is there a chance to bring Jyn Erso back? Felicity Jones hopes so.
In a recent discussion on Variety’s Actors on Actors, Jones discussed Star Wars with Constance Wu telling the Fresh off the Boat and Crazy Rich Asians actor that Star Wars would love to have her.
Wu didn’t seem too excited about the premise, a different and refreshing reaction especially when it seems actors are falling over themselves to appear in some form in the franchise.
So when Wu, who played in the same show for five years, says, “I want to take roles that challenge me in different ways every year. I’m ready for something new, so thinking about that makes me feel like it’s golden shackles.”
But Jones feels very differently. Having had a taste of being part of the Star Wars franchise, she wishes there was a way to bring Jyn back.
“I loved playing that character so I actually, in an opposite way, I would really like to have more consistency and come back and bring Jyn back,” Jones replied. “I would actually like that for a couple of years.”
Let’s take a moment to imagine how Jones would be able to come back because we know it can be done. However, there are some challenges considering two things: her character died in Rogue One, and she lived a life of mostly seclusion based on the novel Rebel Rising.
The events of Rebel Rising take place between when Orson Krennic found the Erso family, killing Jyn’s mother and kidnapping her father to when Cassian found Jyn in prison.
It wasn’t a fun life. It was actually fairly mundane. Jyn lived in a bunker with Saw Gerrera who rarely let her go on missions. She became good at forging Imperial codes for ships and used that skill to help where she could. It also got her out of some sticky situations after she and Saw parted ways.
We know what happened to Jyn from birth to death because it was all revealed in novels. I don’t see an unforced resolution or dumping current canon, but there may be a couple of options.

Jyn Erso mini series
This wouldn’t be a full-fledged series, but a four- to eight-run mini series run showing the events of Rebel Rising. While many Star Wars fans read the novels, there are still so many who don’t.
Adapting the book to a mini series wouldn’t be the worst thing to happen to Star Wars and it would help fans understand how Jyn got to where she did in the lead up to Rogue One.
Special guest on Andor series
Though Jyn and Cassian had never met before Rogue One, they could have crossed paths or come close to it. Perhaps there is a mission that Andor is working on and he needs forged materials or supplies from Saw Gerrera. Jyn could be the one to supply it and hand it off to Saw without realizing Cassian was the intended target.
It’s not a fancy role, but one that could bring Jyn back into the Star Wars universe if even for a brief moment.
Again, there are challenges Star Wars faces if it wanted to bring Jyn Erso back, but if it really wanted it to happen, I’m sure it could figure out a way.
