Two new Star Wars book recently were added to the schedule for 2019. That makes seven new canon books planned to hit the shelves this year.
This year is shaping up to be a big one for Star Wars. Nevermind that we are getting Episode IX, the first live-action TV series, but – for this particular fan – a slew of novels.
I’m an avid reader and just devour books. I was already excited for the books that are scheduled to come out in 2019, but recently two more books were added to the docket. LucasFilm announced a novel tie-in with Disney’s upcoming Galaxy’s Edge theme park.

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is a theme park set to open later this year in both Disney World and Disneyland. We know that theme park is set in the Outer Rim on a planet called Batuu. We briefly encountered Batuu – specifically Black Spire Outpost – in Thrawn: Alliances.
It’s an outpost filled with criminals, smugglers, and those who don’t want to be found. So, of course, there’s always going to be a little fun in the process
The new books and comics will be dedicated to life on Batuu, gearing up fans for the theme park’s opening.
But the component I want to focus is the tie-in novel: Black Spire Outpost by Delilah Dawson set to arrive in September. While not much is known about the plot, it doesn’t focus on General Leia sending spies to find Resistance allies – something that has been a theme in comics that take place post-The Last Jedi.
In the Poe Dameron comic, the mission of Black Squadron was to head out and find allies for the Resistance as well. They were met with mixed success. That seems to be a theme heading into Episode IX with the Resistance looking for allies after General Leia’s distress call went unanswered in The Last Jedi.
With the addition of Black Spire Outpost — and Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, which looks at the story of Star Wars from the eyes of the Skywalker family — that makes seven canon books coming for this year.
Here’s the list:
- Queen’s Shadow (March)
- Master & Apprentice (April)
- Alphabet Squadron (June)
- Thrawn: Treason (July)
- A Crash of Fate (August)
- Black Spire Outpost (September)
- Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga (September)
That may not be the end either, but we’ll just sit back and wait for more news. There is a lot happening in 2019 — we talked about it here.
