Alright, Star Wars fans, it looks like we’re still going to be waiting for The Mandalorian season 3 to land on Disney Plus. The show was missing from the roster of Star Wars shows coming to the platform in April, and it’s not expected to make a return in May either.

If you’re a fan of the Clone Wars/early Empire era of the franchise, your wait can at least be tied over by The Bad Batch, which will be making its debut on May 4, Star Wars Day.

While the animated series doesn’t take place during the same time period as The Mandalorian, fans can expect to see a familiar face. Ming-Na Wen will be reprising her role as Fennec Shand, a character that debuted in season 1 of The Mandalorian.

This animated version, by virtue of The Bad Batch taking place post-Clone Wars, will be a younger version of the character Wen originated. With youth, of course, comes reckless abandon. Fans of Fennec should prepare to see a more brash version of the bounty hunter.

Wen told StarWars.com, “ cutting her teeth as a bounty hunter in The Bad Batch,” and it sounds like those teeth are going to be sharp.

Still, a potential tie-over isn’t a replacement, and The Bad Batch and The Mandalorian offer two different experiences. So when can we expect season 3 of the space western audiences love and adore? You’re not going to like the answer.

The Mandalorian season 3 release date

It was confirmed in December 2020 that the series would miss its traditional premiere window of October or November. This is due to attention turning to The Book of Boba Fett, a spin-off series of The Mandalorian set to premiere December 2021.

The series, which is currently filming, was slated to begin production before The Mandalorian season 3, which means fans of Mando’s journey will most likely be waiting into 2022 to be returned to his side of the Star Wars franchise.

We’ll keep you posted on more The Mandalorian season 3 release date news.
