After my young daughter Brooklyn finally got over her Bibo obsession, she and I decided to finish the first season of Star Wars Resistance. We both thoroughly enjoyed finishing the exciting conclusion to many character arcs for the season, and she was very curious about what would happen.
In the "The Core Problem," I though Brooklyn would be upset after BB-8 left the show to go on his adventures in the films. If you aren't aware, Season 1 ends during The Force Awakens timeline. However, she fell in love instantly with CB-23. For many reasons, Brooklyn loved this new addition, such as CB-23 being a girl droid and being funnier than BB-8.
As the season was wrapping up and Kaz, Torra, and Captain Doza were beginning to take on the First Order, she got very invested in the storyline. She liked that Yeager saved Kaz Xiono, and then Kaz, in turn, grew and was able to save Yeager by the end of the season.
Perhaps her favorite element was the girl power displayed by the characters as they were able to kick the First Order off the ship, the Colossus. She rooted on CB-23 as she battled the bad black First Order BB droid, making me laugh as she screamed, "Go CB-23, GO!!!"

Brooklyn also continues to love Torra Doza, asking to be her for Halloween in the fall. If she was Torra Doza for Halloween, it would be full circle, considering she was BB-8 when she was five and had my wife dress up as Torra. I adore her truly responding to the show and understanding what exactly is going on. She also noted that Torra is clearly a better fighter than Kaz.
Brooklyn was very nervous that Synara San wouldn't return after she joined the pirates a few episodes ago. It was a relief when the pirates, led by Synara, received Kaz and the Colossus' distress message to help the heroes. She was very happy and yelled her name when she saw her.
Star Wars Resistance as a whole is one of the better examples of storytelling and character progression in the franchise. This is why I believe Brooklyn has gravitated so strongly to Synara. The character started as a pirate, but as she experiences the compassion from the heroes, she begins to question her allegiances and starts to change.
It will be excited to see how Brooklyn reacts to Synara in Season 2. From my recollection, the second season has a bit more darker themes, and I will be curious to see how my daughter watches and comprehends those themes.
Until we get to start Season 2, we have a Halloween costume to plan.
