Fans attending D23 were treated to exclusive new footage from The Mandalorian and Grogu, which has recently begun principal photography. Although the release is about two years away, getting a sneak peek at what's in store must have been thrilling for attendees, offering a tantalizing glimpse into the upcoming season.

As always, fans took their phones out and recorded the footage, which is less than two minutes long and includes clips from the series along with the movie, and it made its way online. However, even limited footage gives a good idea of what the movie will be like. The footage has roused our curiosity and we're eager to know more.

Here are 3 questions we have about The Mandalorian and Grogu:

1. Why does Din still refer to Grogu as his apprentice?

This isn't a serious question, but it's important nonetheless. Din adopted Grogu at the end of The Mandalorian Season 3 but refers to him as his "apprentice." Grogu is Din's apprentice but also Din's son. Fans are waiting for Din to refer to Grogu as his son, just as much as they're waiting to hear Grogu call him "Dad." It's a tiny detail but an important one. Jon Favreau might be saving this for another time, perhaps when it's just Dad and Son together. Regardless of why Din calls Grogu his apprentice, we can't wait for him to call Grogu his son.

2. Will Din Djarin remove his helmet?

It appears that filming has been going on for quite some time, and there were signs before Pedro Pascal began filming Fantastic Four that he might be available. Did he film some scenes without the helmet, and is he the one in the suit in the new footage? It's easy for hardcore fans to spot when it's Pedro Pascal, Barry Lowin, Brendan Wayne, or Lateef Crowder in the suit. I wonder if it's Pedro in the suit for some of the new scenes, including one in which Din shoots at a bunch of people with his blaster. Everyone would love to have him back in the suit and for Din to finally remove his helmet for the first time since Season 2.

3. Will Din meet the Ghost Crew?

Will meeting Zeb lead Din to become friends with Hera Syndulla and Ezra Bridger? We know both parties are on the same side and can form a great team. Din can help Hera and Ezra bring Ahsoka Tano and Sabine Wren home from Peridea. It would also be super cool for Jacen Syndulla and Grogu to meet one another, as they're both the Force sensitive kiddos of two tough parents!

The Mandalorian and Grogu premieres May 22, 2026 and The Mandalorian is streaming on Disney+.
