The Bad Batch: This character is due for a redemption arc
The Bad Batch has many characters seeking redemption. Crosshair is one of them; Vice Admiral Rampart may be another. But one character certainly seems set up for redemption: Dr. Emerie Karr.
The Bad Batch: This character is due for a redemption arc
Doctor Karr has made clear throughout Season 3 that even though she works for the Empire, she is not thrilled about it. She is a clone herself, so part of her may feel some connection or attachment with the clones she sees on Mount Tantiss. She especially feels a bond with Omega as Omega is essentially a younger version of her. She may not always show it given she is torn between her scientific duties and her compassionate impulses, but little moments like earlier in the season when she gives Omega her doll are a hint at where her heart lies.
It is also clear that Doctor Karr is deeply uncomfortable with the treatment and experiments conducted on the young Force sensitive children at the base. She talks to the imprisoned Nala Se about it. Nala Se essentially tells her that she used to look after these children as best she could, but now it is up to Emerie. We see some of this compassion as she gives one of the children, Eva, a doll. Eva then tells Omega, once she joins them in captivity, that Emerie is the only nice scientist.
In the latest episode, "Into the Breach," we may have already seen Doctor Karr aiding in Omega’s attempt at an escape. As Omega tells the other children her plans to break them out of the prison, one of the scientists, Doctor Scalder, vocalizes her concern that the children are fraternizing. However, Emerie firmly denies their concerns and says she knows what she is doing.
Emerie almost certainly knows that Omega, whose rebellious streak she has had to contend with in the past, will hatch some sort of plan to let the children escape. Perhaps she is hoping Omega does this herself so she can deny involvement. But it seems like this is setting up for a moment when the chips are down, Emerie Karr will be forced to choose between helping Omega or fulfilling her duties as a scientist. I believe that she will choose to help Omega and the children when the time comes, but it could be a decision that costs her her life, given the brutal nature of the Empire.
Emerie Karr has been an interesting character to watch evolve over the course of this season. While many characters are set up to redeem themselves, Emerie's redemption could be the most crucial in allowing Omega, and perhaps all of the prisoners on Tantiss, to escape.
