Rogue One's Felicity Jones gives promising response to a potential return to Star Wars

Felicity Jones, better known as Jyn Erso from Rogue One, just gave a positive response when asked if her time in Star Wars is over. Could she be making a cameo in Andor: A Star Wars Story?

In the years since Rogue One: A Star Wars Story was released, Felicity Jones has expressed her wish to return to Star Wars as Jyn Erso multiple times. However, in the past few months, Jones sounded less optimistic about a possible Andor season 2 cameo and said she won't be a part of it.

However, we might have a reason to believe that Jones may have played coy all along, and her return to the franchise is quite possible. Jones spoke to Screen Rant's Liam Crawley about her upcoming movie, The Brutalist, and sounded far more optimistic about Jyn Erso's future than ever. When asked if audiences have bid a farewell to Jones as Jyn Erso, she responded with "Never. We'll never say goodbye to her. She will live on. She'll live on."

Forgive us for reading between the lines here, but "she'll live on" is a bold thing to say about a character who got incinerated by the Death Star. However, Jones may have meant that Jyn's legacy as a Rebel hero will live on. That's not all, though. Jones then went into more detail about her feelings about Jyn's future in Star Wars:

"I mean, never say never. She's a pretty badass character. Maybe she could come back as a hologram or something, which is completely possible in the Star Wars universe."

Jones' Star Wars contract extended beyond a single film, leaving the door open for her return, much like her Rogue One co-star Diego Luna. Although a Jyn Erso solo series was never announced and Andor didn't focus on her character, Jones' contractual obligations always made a potential comeback possible.

From the beginning, Erso's return to Andor seemed possible, and if done right, it doesn't necessarily have to break canon.

Jyn's track in Andor season 2 could last 2-3 episodes and run parallel to Cassian's, ensuring the duo never meet before Rogue One. This happening could provide insight into her journey, specifically how she ended up imprisoned by the Empire on Wobani, setting the stage for her rescue by the Rebel Alliance.

Andor has emphasized the similarities in the journeys of Jyn and Cassian and makes their inevitable fate seem more tragic. Perhaps Jyn and Cassian were meant to be together, how ever short their journeys may have been. In many ways, their lives mirrored each other's, up till their final breaths together on Scarif before the Death Star ended their promising lives in a single blast.

Whether it's a return in Andor or in a future movie, Star Wars fans would always welcome the return of Jyn Erso, our "Stardust."
