Star Wars legend and recent recipient of a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Mark Hamill, is not quite finished playing the iconic Luke Skywalker.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi sent off Luke Skywalker in epic fashion, with the broken Jedi Master returning to his heroic ways at the end of the film — with Skywalker staring off into the horizon at twin suns, ending his journey where it began.
Evidently, Mark Hamill is not finished with Luke Skywalker quite yet, appearing in the latest Star Wars animated (short) series Forces of Destiny — in the episode The Path Ahead.
"Struggling with his Jedi training, Luke is grateful for master Yoda’s offer to join him on a sojourn through the trees and swamps of Dagobah, until he learns that Yoda will be riding in his backpack! Minding Yoda, Luke learns to trust what he feels instead of what he thinks he sees."

Hamill showcases his unique voice acting talents, providing a younger variation of his voice (spot on, of course). Seeing Luke Skywalker during his formative years once again brings back all sorts of feelings of nostalgia.
Why not let those good times roll, once again? Much of Luke’s story is left untold and what better way to do so via the animated realm.
Even though the Marvel Star Wars arc’s exhausted the timeframe between A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back, the story group at Lucasfilm has not touched the one-year canon gap from Empire to Return of the Jedi.
Now that we know that Ahsoka lives(!) beyond the events of the Original trilogy, it’s entirely possible that she encounters Luke at some point during his story arc. Talk about coming full circle!
Is it plausible that Forces of Destiny is just the beginning of Hamill’s return as young Skywalker? We know that Dave Filoni is not yet finished with Star Wars in the animation realm — and hopefully, Lucasfilm tasks the talented director with a live-action film — but that’s a good question and a story for another time.
Will Mark Hamill return as Luke Skywalker for Star Wars: Episode IX?
“Only JJ knows for sure.”

Leave it to the “trickster” Mark Hamill (himself) to tease us on the future of Luke Skywalker. But, for now, we’ll take what we can get. And, who knows, maybe his appearance in Forces of Destiny is just an appetizer of a full-course meal to come!
