There's one part of reprising his role as Cassian Andor years after Rogue One that Diego Luna found particularly challenging.

Diego Luna is grateful he had the opportunity to stick around the Star Wars universe longer than he initially anticipated. While Luna's role ended when Cassian Andor died at the end of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story in 2016, he starred in two seasons of a prequel series about his character.

Andor has proven to be a big break for Luna, but there's an aspect of playing a character in a prequel that was especially difficult to pull off. According to Popverse, Luna found it challenging to look as young as he did in Rogue One. Luna points out that, as Andor takes place five years before Rogue One, he had to appear even younger than he did in the movie, which is almost impossible.

At a panel during PaleyFest 2025, Luna said:

"For me, it was very easy because I know the ending perfectly,” but "it was just about staying as young as possible so people would believe it was a prequel."

Aging is a factor that weighed heavily on the actor throughout the pre-production and production stages of making Andor. It figures into the show being condensed down to two seasons instead of the five that were initially planned.

If aging wasn't a big deal and Luna was able to pull off appearing younger than he did in 2016 for a few more years, maybe fans could have gotten a few more seasons of Andor. As for how he maintained his youthful appearance, Luna credits, "A lot of water and eating healthy."

Other than taking care of his looks, Luna says everything else was easy because of the show's writing.

“One thing that was a great tool that doesn’t happen in television normally is that everything was written for us. The material was there; it was just ideas that were one day going to turn into pages", he revealed.

The actor credits the "big chunks of pre-production" for helping everyone understand what was expected during the season.

Now that Andor is over, the best thing to do is re-watch Rogue One and see if Diego Luna was able to maintain his good looks throughout the two seasons of Andor. Rogue One's director, Gareth Edwards, has recently been in the news due to the box office success of his latest movie, Jurassic World Rebirth. As for Diego Luna and the cast of Andor, they've all been busy making appearances as part of Lucasfilm's Emmy push.

Andor is the last live-action series for a while, as Ahsoka Season 2 is still under production and doesn't have a release date. With The Mandalorian and Grogu wrapped and ready to release on May 22, 2026, it's unlikely we'll see Ahsoka until the end of next year.

Andor and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story are streaming on Disney+.
